I'm sorry, I agree with his comments and not only do I NOT find them offensive, I find it amazing that anyone other than the perennially sensitive would find them so.

The comments are not at all racist or exclusionary but in fact an attempt to be inclusionary. He speaks for lots of civilized people when he says this. This is less a clash of Western versus Eastern but of the 12Century and the 21st.

But most people will say it's "open season on Muslims!" Let the hypersensitivy Olympics roll on with Muslims in first place after Christians being in the lead for sooo long. :)

How would we find out if most of these women are upset if most of them are not allowed to speak in public? I guess only muslim men can give orders to Muslim women.

Theo Van Gough made a sensual film of women without their veils, and he found himself quickly throat-slahed and left for dead on a street in Amsterdam.

Imagine if most Muslim women even tried to go without their veils. I feel sympathy for the women who have to wear them.

On the CNN website, some woman commented "The wisdom behind the veil is for the protection of the woman. It is not oppressive, rather, it is empowering."

Yeah, uh huh

Yeah and the fact that they have to walk 2 steps behind their man etc etc etc just makes them more powerful.....(I guess they are thinking that if she has a knife, it gives her the power to get her "master" at any time...)

The veil, head scarf and Burkah are all forms of Islamic oppression on women.

Islamic women need to cover themselves and ugly themselves down to avoid being raped by sexually repressed Muslim men.

If a Muslim women is raped, then it’s her fault for somehow provoking the man. The woman’s family is expected to kill her to restore the family honour.

Muslim women suffer because of Muslim men’s lack of self control.

This is your case in favour of Islam? You find 5 nuts that converted? Why don’t you convert if it’s so damn wonderful?

Islam is all about “submit and obey.” Those are the two most common words in the Qur’an. The word Islam means submission.

Some people want to give up all freedom of choice and give all their control to king and cleric. It’s comfortable knowing you don’t have to make any decisions.

Here’s the case of people who left Islam and why.

It is almost impossible to see the wearing of the veil, or hijab, as anything but an act of submission to men. And yet many Muslim women do willingly. We may consider them all to be in fear of their men, or simply brain-washed into accepting this, and indeed they may be. It is inconceivable for many of us in the West to accept, but I also thnk it's far more ingrained in some societies than we could ever understand.
