DQ! Please! They can do more than chant and burn flags! If I was a public figure, I would not have any fears about ridiculing christianity. But I would think twice about islam.

Insulting islam will draw more than angry chants! It can get death threats decreed on you (Rushdie)! It can get you killed (Theo Van Gogh)! There are christian radicals that would do the same thing but they are much less in number and they are also mainly rejected by most mainstream christians.

The difference:
a) Most people would wager that Mulroney wouldn't follow through on it
b) His supporters wouldn't take his comment seriously - and if they did, they wouldn't support him
c) if Mulroney did it, we, the Canadian people, would villify him

intolerance is a fact of life. But when it is so strong, so widespread and accepted among a large group of people... that is when it is dangerous.

Hitler was dangerous because many people believed and followed him. If people thought he was a nut then he wouldn't be dangerous.

You know I might go along with this if it wasn't for educated clergy and politicians whipping up the crowds to a frenzy. In addition the countries that have no real tolerance for this also have no real independent press.

I still stand by my point that there is simply a lack of tolerance on Islam's view of the rest of the world.

This response is not being driven by the average Muslim, it is being driven by their leadership who actually know better.

Wow, they burn down/blow up embassies cuz they feel thier faith gives them to right to.... in this case over cartoons. Using this same brilliant logic... can't western counties NUKE thier asses... as Muslim Jihadists killed so many innocents in London and Spain.
