If you are a cat like me, the you do not like it when people mess with your stuff or shit in your box. A friend of mine was moving last year and I told her that if I was moving I would not allow movers to load up all my stuff and then be at their mercy. There have been occasions where movers arrive at the new location and then ask for up charges before they unload. If you do not pay up they take your stuff away. ( at your expense for transportation and storage )
My solution was to box up all your stuff and load it into a Pods box.

You hire some kids to move all your stuff into the Pods box delivered it to the new address and the kids take all the boxes into the new place. Mark all the items and boxes L,K or B. ( living room, bedroom and Kitchen ) At the new place the items will be deposited in the appropriate room. We moved her at 1/3 the cost of a regular mover and without the hassles.
Who picks up the Pods container and transports it to your new home?

I used Best Movers years ago, but nothing wrong with the other suggestions herein. Just ask if there's any fine print or conditions.

Sophia I've been crazy busy lately but hope to see you a few times before your move, but will be happy to see you in Oakville too.

I've used El Cheapo before and they were great. Found them from this list:

http://www.blogto.com/toronto/the_best_movers_in_toronto/

Shockingly, they were not expensive! However I didn't have anything delicate or expensive to move.

I've been shaken down by movers before (extra money please or we'll just take your stuff) so yeah, be careful. DO NOT let anyone load up your things if they say they are 'subcontractors' to the company you called.

Pods.ca delivers the container to your door and you load it, they pick it up for storage or direct delivery to the new place and you unload it. It took three guys and two ladies and 4 kids to move. Total 7 hours.

She was all boxed up 1 week before with all the boxes marked and inventoried on her gmail account. In case she needed something before the actual move she knew what box to look in. In the last week she only kept the essentials out and they were the last to be boxed up the night before the move. We were all prepared with triangular cardboard tubes ( from Home Depot ) and big cardboard sheets from bicycle boxes from a bicycle store. Regular cardboard boxes from small stores and LCBO. We got a box of strapping from Staples to strap up her furniture with cardboard sheets and tubular triangles.
When all her stuff was moved into the appropriate rooms at the new place, the essentials boxes were the last to go in. That way she was set up to go and if she needed anything she knew which boxes to go because everything was inventoried and she cold find it by going to her gmail.

I have always packed and unpacked my own items. That way you can start well, before the actual day. But I have used the same moving company three times. One of the long standing companies - United Van lines. Never had a problem with them, and nothing has ever been damaged, Some of my furniture is large, heavy, expensive. Others antiques, and they have always protected them, during the move. Could be one reason, if they do damage anything, they are on the hook for it. (smile) Some of those smaller companies, may not have the same rules. Good luck on the move.

You know what? If one has the time to load up those containers, and you have family or friends to help, it's not a bad idea.

I used Firemen Movers to move some very heavy unusually shaped items. They arrived on time, were very careful and a reasonable price. Yes they are firefighters doing this on their days off.

I believe they're listed in the blogto link. I know a lot of firemen that have second jobs (e.g. home inspection, general contracting, etc.) so why not moving. My naturally dirty mind immediately perked up at the idea of sweaty firemen moving my things!

I thought it might. Moving day can be rough so you might as well have a bit of a distraction!!

I wanted to thank everyone for their suggestions!

Moving day went great. I'm slowly but surely cleaning the place (previous tenants were slobs) and getting everything unpacked and ready to entertain you gentlemen. I have a wonderful new 16.5'' Kingsdown Palais Royale matress for your and my comfort. Looking forward to a new chapter in my life and sharing it with you. Please keep an eye out for my future ads here.

It'll soon be that time again as I'm moving operations to the East end of Burlington the end of November.

Any more recent suggestions?
Logic would dictate that if you were happy with whomever you chose last time, you would not be asking this question.

Andy's Moving Company tel:(416) 631-6980 Reliable and honest. I used him to move my stuff into storage and then to my parents house. When my new house was ready, he moved us again from my parents house and the stuff in storage into my new house. Didn't damage any of my furniture. Only thing is I don't remember getting any paper work. He came by, took a look at my stuff, gave a quote and we confirmed a date and a time. Everything was done on a handshake and he didn't charge extra like some horror stories you see on the news where people get there things held up for ransom unless they paid more money. My friends and I have used these guys many times over the past 15 years and never had any issues.
That number now comes up as Moving For You (https://www.facebook.com/MovingForYou1991/) or (@ MovingForYou1991, which doesn't exist).
