Did a long haul, whole house move with King's Transfer Van Lines. Service was excellent. Would use them again in a flash.

Did a short hop across town with only a few heavy pieces. Tried one of the local companies that advertise in the local papers. Shoddy job. Upsell for everything on the day of the move. Don't remember the name, but I would avoid these small outfits like the plague.

Get a written quote before you hire anyone. They are bound by the written quote (subject to a relatively minor variances).

I hired a local company a few years ago. They quoted me (in writing) $700. They loaded up my stuff and drove to the new house. Then then asked for my CC (which I gave; if you don't you have to pay cash or they refuse to unload).

The bill at the end was $1600. I didn't even bother arguing with them. I just said thanks.

Then I wrote to their office with a complaint. They came back with some bullshit explanation about how the walk from my condo to my truck was longer than expected (by 25 feet). LMAO.

I asked them if that was the explanation they were prepared to give to a judge. Then I reminded them that I had a written estimate and they had charged me more than double the quote. They refunded the difference to my card.

Any chance that was Desi Movers or Pacific Van Lines (same). They did that to someone I know and they ended up charged. Got 500.00 refund eventually.
