For the past week or three I have noticed that I have a mouse in my house. I have been looking for mouse droppings so that I can set a trap but so far I have not been able to find any. The little critter is in between the main floor and the second floor of the house (I hear him scurrying about on the ceiling).

Is there an effective way to rid myself of this critter? I was thinking about poison, but I'm afraid that the little fucker will die and stink for a while.

TIA

You could always borrow a cat!

Have you tried glue traps? My dad used them and they work, just set them out where you think that mouse may roam.

Mouse traps baited with peanut butter can be very effective. You just need to put them somewhere that the mouse can get to.

Of course, you can always buy those traps that have a piece of plastic that looks like swiss cheese. I figure the mouse takes one look at the trap and dies laughing.

Crackers, peanut butter and an accurate BB gun works every time.

Get the top of a tin can and punch two holes in the center. Tie the can to the center of a 12 inch round dowel so that the dowel bisects the diameter of the can lid.

Put peanut butter on the edge of the can lid and then place the dowel accross the top of a bucket that's half filled with water. make the top of the bucket accessible to a mouse.

The mouse will smell the peanut butter walk out on the dowel and as soon as it steps on the lid of the can it will tip dumping the mouse into the bucket of water.

The beautiful thing about this trap is it resets itself (cause usually where there's one mouse there's 3 or 4) and you just need to toss the water out into the backyard with the dead mouse (mice)

LOL There is block poison you can buy at most Hardware stores. I forget the name of it, but it is peanut butter flavoured. Just break a couple pieces off, throw it around in your attic, and they will internally decompose and turn into a dust bunny. The sooner the better before they start chewing on your wiring. Try a couple moth balls in your garage, cause they love cars too.

Buy a cat.

Preferably a female cat since it is my experience that they hunt far more than the males do.

reminds me of an Extermination place I once visited. Same problem, had a mouse. This place was family run, owned by this old guy. The thing is, he had about 4 beautiful daughters.......I mean models.........all working at the place and each 1 knew their stuff

such a juxtaposition......like to see some fine ladies working at the library, auto shop, funeral home.......uhhh, scratch that last 1

Why not just learn to live in harmony with the little fella, Ref ?

Problem solved.

If that doesn't work you could use an elephant gun. Don't wanna take any chances. They can be the most foul, cruel, and bad-tempered rodents you'll ever set eyes on, with huge pointy teeth and a vicious streak a mile long !

If that doesn't work you may have to resort to ... The Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch!

I had similar problem in my previous house about 3 winters ago, the chilling cold and humidity we were experiencing then drove some small rats indoor.

Didn't have luck with sticky pad. So I went to Home Depo and got a few modern type mouse trap ( made of steel and grey plastic, if I remember correctly, they were not cheap, about $ 10 or 11 each ), and laid them in a few corners in the basement. Used peanut butter as bait ( as recommended by the instruction leaflet).... worked like a charm. Man, those traps were powerful... the little fury ones died some ugly death .

Hope this helps and good luck.

OK, seriously, get a about a dozen fox snakes, which are native to Canada. Nothing like having your own personal ecosystem.

In one of my university houses we had the same problem. Like others here have stated, get a trap with peanuts butter, and something solid like half a raisin (some mouses are good enough to lick the peanut butter without setting the trap). Set up your traps, and get ready to hear the snap. Do it quickly before they reproduce.

licking the PB

regular traps ( you know the old fashioned , spring loaded kind)

buy a whole bunch (they are cheap), use peanut butter.

Ok , if they lick a trap clean occasionally , - , that way you know you still have a problem - I agree , get them before they breed.

Just remember to never invite Meesh over.
Make that, Spitting Cobras .

Did I mention that Komodo Dragons make great assets to the higher ranks of the food chain.

Only thing is, you gotta watch out for the neighbourhood dogs and cats, not to mention the neighbours : (

Try a sonic Mouse repeller. look it up on google. Basically it emits a high pitched noise that drives the mouse (mice) away.
I used one years ago and knew itwas working. No mice and the my neighbor (I was in a semi detached house at the time) started complaining to me. Apparently they all went there instead.

Mouse problem suggestions

Living in the middle of no where (northern Canada) we get a lot of mice trying to make a winter home in our house. I've found that they are truely very attracted to Penutbutter. I decided on a mouse friendly (no kill) trap. Looks like a metal cigar box with two openings on each end.. they walk in over a little ramp and the ramp closes behind them. The trap can hold several mice.. (I've had up to 5 in mine at one time) and then you can do what ever you want with them after that.. Mail them to SP's you don't like.. Drop a full box of them off at your mother in law's house.. Train about a dozen of them to fetch your beer from the fridge while you surf the TERB website..
