This, for fuck’s sake. If you have a problem, call your MP and complain. The dispatchers can’t do anything for you even if they wanted to, and they’re not gonna pass along your complaint, they’re gonna roll their eyes and hang up (or possibly charge you for improper use of emergency services).
They never hang up
(I suspect they are not allowed to)

Even if you curse them out they are quite polite so kudos to them on job training

For anyone bothering to read the news, the father was NOT charged (as of right now) .
Simple violation of a custody order (issued by a family court) are not enforceable under the criminal code.
This one was not even a custody order; it was a temporary order so worthless

Naw I posted in other thread so you repeating yourself but that guy called in *11* times

Plus the obvious fact the charge wont stick (mental issues and all)

Just watch & remember I called it 1st
Oh maybe, or they make an example of him. Either way, he has it hanging over him until its resolved. Might make it interesting if he tries to go to the US. In any event, it was just plain stupid.

So, you’re calling an emergency dispatcher to complain about a minor grievance they have no control over, and cursing them out knowing they can’t hang up on you? Wow. Keep it fuckin’ classy, TeeJay.

Today I got one on my phone and one on my TV.
Haven't yet had a landline Amber Alert; turn off the cell-phone. No one who is watching TV can claim an important activity shouldn't have been interrupted, but the folks to complain to are the cable company or streaming service. Free OTA broadcasters? Sorry, that's part of their license to use our airwaves.

Not everyone can afford a landline and a cellphone. And seeing as how a cellphone is necessary for some people's employment they go with just that. Which means turning it off at night isn't an option.

This should be made optional right from the telecom provider as a setting on your account.

Has the public been provided with another contact option to voice their frustration, at their private service being co-opted by the government, in order to be used as a tool in someone else's custody battle?

Saying that implies that calling 911 is a contact option. It is not. You’re calling completely the wrong people, you might as well call a Pizza Pizza and complain, they have about as much to do with the alerts as 911 dispatchers do.

Same can be said about gay parades, environmental marches, or any other street demonstration: if you have a problem with the government's action, call your MP. Calling 911 is similar to going on the street demonstration: you show your opinion by providing inconvenience to the government and to other people.

Tying up emergency services is not civil disobedience, it’s being an asshole. Emergency services are for emergencies, there are people calling in with real life or death problems who might not be able to get through because ignorant dickheads are tying up the line calling in to complain about amber alerts. You’re not really bothering the dispatchers, they probably don’t really give a fuck, you’re endangering other people in your city because you’re a selfish moron.

If you want to bombard your MP’s office with calls/angry letters/flaming bags of dog shit/whatever, have at it. Just don’t tie up emergency services. You’re not “inconveniencing the government”, you’re killing someone’s grandma who just had a stroke.

If a cellphone is a requirement of hour employment, then you employer's paying for it. If your employer requires you to be on call 24 hours then Amber alerts are nothing to complain about. They're no worse than the call from your work, and every job has its minor irritants; that's why it's called 'work'. You're making money with the phone on; it's not meant to be easy.

There are 22 landline providers in the Toronto market. It's competitive, and rates are low. Only you can decide how much not getting those alerts is worth to you. But no one can reasonably claim they're 'forced' to endure the 'evil things' because of their job.

Maybe you need a union.

Hell, I have a free landline with my cable/internet package that I don’t even use. Saying someone can’t afford a landline nowadays is just silly. You can get a basic landline for an absolutely trivial amount of money, we’re talking pocket change monthly.
