I'm staying indoors to-night so I simply walked up to the Rogers box and pressed the "exit" button.

I remember in a previous alert, they were still playing the message hours after the little girl was found (unfortunately deceased).
=======================================================
Despite all the complaints there are good people out there who make the Alert work.

Oh and again this is NOT a kidnapping it is a domestic dispute
Funny how cops are so quick to Amber a husband-wife dispute over the kids

For anyone who actually bothered to read the news:
Kids were taken "between Sep 19 to 25" (lol wifey does not even know WHEN kids were taken, parent of the year here)
And father is charged with kidnapping for ignoring a temporary custody order (in other words after kids gone she went to a judge and asked for them back, its not even a legit custody order its a forced temp one due to court arguments)

Fuck all the police and any morons who actually think this is a kidnapping

If a child is abducted by a stranger, that is amber alert worthy. When a father takes his kid due to a custody dispute, it is not amber alert material.

Calling 9-1-1 to complain about Amber Alerts is like calling Canadian Tire to complain that your pizza order was wrong. The 9-1-1 operators don't issue the alerts, they don't approve them, they don't control when they are sent, they have zero to do with them. People calling 9-1-1 to complain about them are just identifying themselves as idiots.

This, for fuck’s sake. If you have a problem, call your MP and complain. The dispatchers can’t do anything for you even if they wanted to, and they’re not gonna pass along your complaint, they’re gonna roll their eyes and hang up (or possibly charge you for improper use of emergency services).

I agree 100%. I think most people don't know the proper channels to go through, so just go with what they know: 9-1-1.

The system works (sorry to hear your bbbj was interrupted). Thanks to a tip from the public, all 5 kids found safe and sound.

Highway signs are pretty clear.

Amber alert - tune to radio for details.
I realized yesterday that's how it works. Thanks. Most previous alerts were at 3:00am, I was never in my car at that time to experience that. But yesterday I was driving in the middle of that freak rain storm. At one moment it became pitch black, couldn't even see the traffic lights or even car lights in front of me. That's when the alert came on. It really added the needed drama to already very scary situation. There must be a better way to let people know about these alerts instead of this crazy sound alarm coming out of the radio. It's totally unnecessary to make it so jolting.

I'm glad that was only a father who took his kids out 3 weeks ago. I'm sure it was necessary to let us all know about it that way.

yes... safe and sound and no charges laid. Still think it was so urgent that every citizen had to be disturbed?

I'm accustomed to getting amber alerts at 2am in the morning for something that's happening 4 hours away from me, so getting one in the afternoon was a welcome change of pace, even though it was still for something 300km away.

Yes, all found safe and sound. Was EVERY citizen disturbed? If I've told you once, I've told you a million times, don't exaggerate.

The cops are between a rock and a hard place. If they don't put out the alert and a situation happens again like the tragedy in Orillia with the father and his daughter, they get criticized up and down of not doing all they could. In this case, everything turned out ok. Absent of a crystal ball, how are they supposed to predict the future? If it was a child you knew who might be in danger, would you accept the cops saying, "Well true, they might be in danger, but we don't want to disturb the public to ask for their help. Hopefully it all works out. Most of the time these things do."?

A couple factors that I find interesting. Mom didn't call the police, Child and Family Services did, ergo they were involved with the family currently. Why do they get involved? Because there is concern for the welfare of the children, before this even takes place. Dad takes them for a week and doesn't return them on time, and obviously isn't readily making their location known to anyone. After CFS did their initial investigation, they call the cops, and the police locate dad within 24 hours with the help of a call from the public who saw / heard the alert. Remember they were looking for a gold pick up truck. They find dad in a red car. Any reason why he switched vehicles? Obviously there is way more to this.

For anyone bothering to read the news, the father was NOT charged (as of right now) .
Just curious, who do you think kills more children, abductors who are strangers to the child, or abductors who are family members / relatives?
And here's a quick fact for ya...Criminal charges of parental abduction cannot be laid unless there is the express approval of the attorney general's office. Simple violation of a custody order (issued by a family court) are not enforceable under the criminal code.

Well, that was mature. What do you do in your spare time, knock on doors and run away?
No, in his spare time, TeeJay like to drive at exactly 100 km/h in the left lane on the 401 and refuses to move over for faster traffic. That's the type of person he is.

Anyway, something still doesn't add up. If the kids were believed to have been taken from their home in Jordan, Ont., sometime between Sept. 19 and Sept. 25 by their father, why did the mother wait so long to contact Police? When did she realize they were missing? Were these kids not supposed to be in school? If so, did the school not contact the parents? So many questions...

That's the thing. Mom didn't contact police, Child and Family services did after they couldn't locate dad and they had concerns. Obviously CFS has been involved previously with this family.
