The TV guys are saying that MLB is looking at potential changes to the game.

One change I would like to see is the game end in regulation. If it is tied, so be it.

Another change I like to see is ................................

One change I'd like to see is both leagues either have the DH or have the pitchers hit. Let's see some consistency.

I don't think you will see it. Both fans prefer the brand of their favourite team.

AL fans will almost always prefer the DH rule, because they prefer the offence and that is what they have grown to enjoy. Most NL fans will prefer the additional strategy no DH brings. My roots are in the NL and I would really hate to see everything go DH.

It always surprised me how many hardcore and smart AL baseball fans have limited understanding on the additional strategy in the NL game. Much more game management is required -- makes you think a lot more as a fan.

Craziest thing I ever heard at a baseball game -- some fan behind me was talking to his buddy how baseball should go to 5 bases. But it did make me think, how the base dimensions have lasted the test of time -- base to base dimensions have been the same for 140 years, and despite human changes in strength, agility, speed, there has never been a real need to move the bases up or back a few feet.

How about moving the pitching mound back 10 feet? Or, how about giving the pitcher a 10 pitch limit to get a batter out or he walks?

The TV guys said they might disallow the shift. Can't overload one side of the field with all your defensive players.

The question is this: are the TV guys just talking because in baseball you have more air time to 'fill' than in most other sports.

Or...is this serious consideration from the office of MLB and the broadcasters were following up on that?

not really a rule change...but I think you will see a net or a screen go up along baselines and the one behind home plate made higher. Too many screamers are going into stands and some one is going to get seriously hurt. Far more dangerous than sitting behind the goal at a hockey game or coaching third base and having to wear a helmet (due to a death of a third base coach in minors). The nets will eliminate the going into the stands catches.

Here is a small pet peeve. I used to umpire kids games. We used one new ball, and one almost new ball from the previous game. In MLB they throw the ball out if it gets any dirt on it or the pitcher doesn't like it. Be interesting if they had to use the same ball until it went into the stands. Would also save Rogers and the other owners money - and we all know how important that would be.

That is suggesting that they use a marred ball that the pitchers will not be able to control as well. It sounds like a recipe for more batters getting beaned in the head for the sake of saving a pittance.

The net on the other hand is a good safety measure. But fans love getting souvenirs from foul balls. I don't think I have ever heard of a law suit from someone getting hit.

I think the bigger threat are broken bats flying into the stand. Those thing are like spears.

Anyways, I think a baseball game should be no more than 21/2 hours but because it is not a timed sport it can easily go 3-4-5 hours especially if it goes into extra innings and/or rain delay.

Watching pitchers hit is painful. Plus, there is the risk they could hurt themselves swinging a bat and/or running the bases.
This. Especially with the salaries teams are paying for pitchers it would make sense for a DH only league. I suppose there is more later inning strategy in the NL but in the earlier innings the hitting pitcher is always considered the easiest out.

I'd like to see less reviews. It seems that every close play is being waited on by the benches to see if the replay shows anything different. If a team thinks that the umps missed the play they should instantly challenge. If a replay is on the TV screen it would be too late to challenge. I am sure people will object but these games are getting longer as it is. We don't need any more added time.

Give them 2 or 3 challanges per game but 15 seconds to decide - either challange or move on.
This is big one for me. I'm really annoyed at having the whole manager stay out and "stall" while their team's video guy reviews a play for 30 secs or so before deciding whether to challenge or not.

Give 2 or 3 challenges like tennis, but decision has to be made as soon as the play concludes.
