IMO this will go down in the history of pro sports as the most boneheaded move an athlete has ever done.:(

Fans buy tickets, fans buy jerseys, fans buy the products an athlete endorses.

Micheal Vick doesn't exactly have a lot of fans right now. Plus that smug, insencere press conference probably won't help. Who's forgiveness did he ask for first? Goddell -you're damn right you're sorry. No, you haven't found Jesus yet -he's waiting in your cell waiting to make a circus out of your ass Mr. Vick.

Vick's talents on the field is without question -he is an impact player but really it's the NFL -everybody is replaceable. Is there a GM out there with enough moxy to handle the heat Vick would generate after his prison stint? Will he be as sharp a year or two from now. I doubt it. Ask Clarett -he was only away from football for a year and where is he now?

Micheal Vick's career is done -there is of course the matter of the commish banning him for life for gambling -that's at the commisioners' discression.

I actually did play organized sports

My point is .....the game goes on. How long has the NFL, NHL, NBA, MBL been around? And how many great players were there..a lot there are greats player for every era...and franchises go into slumps and come out of slumps.

You can quote all the numbers you want but history dont lie... they are all replacable...theres always a new great players in the works...always have been always will be.

In the grand scheme of things MLAM... he IS replaceable

and people should stop saying things like "oh he is irreplaceable" regarding athletes...because:

a) Its not true

and

b) They are otherwise simply guys (generally speaking) and all you end op doing is adding fuel to the fire..these guys end up thinking they are untouchable and start to act as such (I'm not just talking with respects to MV); this isnt good when so many look up to them.
See if you had stated in the grand scheme of things or in terms of the history of the game then most would agree. But when you just say replaceable most people consider that on a short term basis. When reading your statements it sounded like you were saying that another Vick would be popping up right away...... of course if we wait long enough there will be someone with similar or better skill sets. Depending on the quality of the player the wait time might be longer.....

I think the conference he had was a farce. It's funny how people find Jesus at just the right time. He can start all the charities and say all he wants it just won't seem sincere to me. This was not some accident where he ran over a dog. He knowingly did what he did over and over again..... he was not desperate, nor crazy or anything else.

I really hope what he said doesn't influence the judge because the statements were purely to help salvage any chance he has to save his ass. Now should he be able to play after he serves his time? Absolutely, he should be given the chance to move on with his life after he serves whatever time the court deems fit.

One thing that bothers me is that him helping the police is deemed as squealing or ratting out etc. I worry that kids will think that coming forward to help the police (in situations that don't invovle plea bargains/ass saving) is a bad thing.

Another thing to consider is why is Vick vilified but the Lohans and Hiltons get off with slaps on the wrist for repeated DUIs etc. Maybe we can hope the next DUI they have is in a conservative state.

Best post yet on Vic

So much wrong with this thread it makes me wonder if people watch football or even know the sport. Don't have time to quote everyone but....

Yes Vick has had one of the highest selling Jersey's. No need to publish any stats, it's been known for years. He's been called the most exciting player and graced many magazines and video games. He's brings in the cash.

Now, comparing Vick to Kobe is insane. Kobe is easily top 3 in the NBA, while Vick isn't even in the top 3 for his position. (but I assume you meant off the field?)

Vick is an average QB at best with natural talent. At anytime he can make a great play or break a tackle for a gain or even touchdown. The problem is his lack of consistency in the pocket. I was thinking that this would be his break out season but I guess not.

The thing that I ask; if he had Manning numbers, would Atlanta be so quick to drop him? If he was on the vurge of winning the Superbowl, would the Falcons be standing behind their man? I think they would. Winning is a cure for forgivness.
Yes by far you summed up VIC and I knew what jersey stats where I was stating he not the TOP as in Number one did not mean to offend anyone. Just a chick who is Hockey (all) and NFL crazy. Look forward to this season and all the input.

Seeing that he won't ever be suspended from dog competitions, when will he be playing football again?

What a skewed article. At no point in time did Whoopi defend him. She just explained why and how it is possible for someone to not be bothered by dogfighting. Something that obviously everyone else on The View (what a stupid illogical show) can't seem to grasp because they like most people in America think that EVERYBODY thinks exactly like they do.

People need to stop hearing what they want and listen to what is being said.

Bone Head

Now if your upbringing has certain factors and leaves mental impressions and acceptable behaviours very understandable. BUT and a huge but, if parents are drug addicts or alcoholics do we not as adults try and better ourselves. One would believe that MV being college educated and an NFL superstar QB has a brain. Cock fighting in other countries is legal just like bull fighting etc. But not legal in USA. Growing certain plant, or beating your wife is legal and acceptable behaviour but not here. So get real! It against law, and when your breaking law you better know the penalty. Risk verses gain. He did not “THINK “of this, he did not think that in THE NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE what might be more acceptable bad behaviour verses others. I think I read on this thread the Vic will go down as biggest bonehead in NFL history, I have to agree. Maybe that why he could scramble and run so well he forgot what play was called, or brain could not process play.

Definitely a bonehead if you are ignorant of the laws in the country you live in. And the sad thing is a lot of people are not aware of the laws. Just because you went to college doesn't mean you automatically know (or even choose to follow) the law. Hopefully others start to wake up. But the fact remains that many people are ignorant of many of the laws, especially the ones that don't get much publicity. If they aren't taught (or they don't listen to )what is right from wrong, then you leave yourself open to the possibility of running afoul of those laws.

It has nothing to do with his brain, and believe me you can''t "forget" what play is called and survive in college football, much less the NFL. Michael Vick isn't stupid.

In your head
Football players egos are running rampant, a lot of them think they are above the law. I think it is more of the above then lack of brains or ignorance>
Anyone remember Tim Worley? Number one draft pick by the Steelers in the early nineties, gets pulled over for driving erratic.
Instead of shutting up and paying the ticket, he starts hassling the cop. The cop get's pissed off and books him and takes him downtown. Where a bloodtest reveals he is not only drunk but does drugs as well.
Anyone heard off him lately?
If he would have kept his mouth shut, he would have gotten off on a DUI....
