Never watched the Harry Potter stuff but I knew him from The singing Detective which was a great TV series back in the 80's

For me he'll be Dumbledore. It really is weird to see people you "know" from movies gone.

Very brave actor.

He played Oscar Wilde at a time when Jerry Falwell was condemning gays to death for AIDS.

I was hoping to find a clip but YT only has the 1997 version with Stephen Fry as Wilde. Gambon's The Trial of Oscar Wilde came out in 1985 as a three part mini-series. I remember watching it on TVO.
