The british royals seem to be on the out. Australia is going republican,
when will Canada follow?

Any attempts to changes the Constitution are always blocked by Quebec. In the meantime we are content with cheaper tea, Saturday afternoon football ( soccer) and Coronation Street to keep Mum quiet.

I have no idea of what the stats are but my gut says that there is still a ton of support for the monarchy here in Canada. Probably more so than even that fuckingly irritating Coronation Street!

CBC has been running a 3 part series on the day-to-day life of the Queen and the 1st two shows have been extremely interesting. The first show included her state visit to the USA where she was honoured by George W with the only white tie affair that he has had in his 2 terms. (He is proud of that fact.) The behind the scenes videos of him showed what a idiot he is in real life when the puppeteers are not around to pull the strings.

I have a new perspective on her and I respect and admire her stamina. She has had a unique vantage point to history in her weekly meetings with 10 different PM's since Churchill. Plus for a Brit she has pretty good teeth.

You are confusing Elizabeth the person with Elizabeth the queen. There is no doubt that she is an outstanding person in her own right. However, the concept of a monarchy is degrading, and goes against fundamental principles of equality, as expressed in: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal....."

It is time to abolish the monarchy in Canada. Bring out the guillotine.

As I've said before danmand, this is dark humor coming from a Dane, whose fellow Danes are about the most supportive country anywhere of their monarchy.

No, it's a comment on how vile Mohamed Fayed is.
I think that Mohammed Fayed saw the opportunity of a lifetime flash before him. His family being included in the British "royal family". That is the Mount Everest of social climbing.... Mohamed was already tasting the Halal food at the wedding, could smell the Falafels cooking in Buckingham Palace. He was going to help foster a new age of peace and harmony between the Brits and the ME..... Then it was snatched so cruelly!!!

I think Mohamed Fayed has been driven insane

Saw that.
But in Laddie's case perhaps a "Greek DRIVER" would be more 'up' his alley!...:D

I don't think you got it. here it is: "A french driver killed Fayed's son, now
he is been driven mad by a french driver."

OTB, as I mentioned above the Danish Monarchy is extremely popular in Denmark. They also have the advantage of not having to deal with the tabloid culture of the British Press.

I don't claim to know tons of Danes, but of those I do Danmand is the only one who feels as he does.
