Found this "letter" on a Yahoo chat board this morning. Puts an interesting perspective on the subject.

Dear President Bush:

I'm about to plan a little trip with my family and extended family,
and I would like to ask you to assist me. I'm going to walk across the
border from the U.S. into Mexico, and I need to make a few arrangements. I
know you can help with this.

I plan to skip all the legal stuff like visas, passports,
immigration quotas and laws. I'm sure they handle those things the same
way you do here.

So, would you mind telling your buddy, President Vicente Fox, that I'm on
my way over? Please let him know that I will be expecting the following:

1. Free medical care for my entire family.
2. English-speaking government bureaucrats for all
services I might need, whether I use them or not.
3. All government forms need to be printed in English.
4. I want my kids to be taught by English-speaking
teachers.
5. Schools need to include classes on American culture
and history.
6. I want my kids to see the American flag flying on the
top of the flag pole at their school with the Mexican
flag flying lower down.
7. Please plan to feed my kids at school for both breakfast
and lunch.
8. I will need a local Mexican driver's license so I can get
easy access to government services.
9. I do not plan to have any car insurance, and I won't make
any effort to learn local traffic laws.
10. In case one of the Mexican police officers does
not get the memo from Pres.Fox to leave me
alone, please be sure that all police officers
speak English.
11. I plan to fly the U.S. flag from my house top, put flag decals on my car, and have a gigantic
celebration on July 4th. I do not want any complaints
or negative comments from the locals.
12. I would also like to have a nice job without paying
any taxes, and don't enforce any labor laws or
tax laws.
13. Please tell all the people in the country to be
extremely nice and never say a critical word about
me, or about the strain I might place on the economy.

I know this is an easy request because you already do all these
things for all the people who come to the U.S. from Mexico.
I am sure that Pres.Fox won't mind returning the favor if you
ask him nicely.

However, if he gives you any trouble, just invite him to go quail
hunting with your V.P.

This is what a lot of people seem to be missing. If there weren't a lot of people willing to hire people without any documentation and pay them less then minimum wage, I'm sure you'd see a reduction in illegal immigrants.

Funny how every Spanish speaking person from south of the US border is a Mexican. Actually some (a lot) of them are coming into Mexico from Countries like Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador.

Why would any country want a group of known law breakers as imigrants. These People might be nice people but their willingness not to obey the law of the land has been already demonstrated. What other laws are they willing to overlook. Many of the Illegals also have no willingness to assimilate into American society which adds to the clash of cultures that is causing alot of stress. The ease with which people and material can sneak through both the northern and southern borders should be a wakeup call to all US citizens that are worried about national security. If people are worried about the quality of life these individuals have in Mexico then shouldn't people be taking that up with the Mexican government.

Can the american government return 11+ million illegals? Probably not. Can they close the border and slow or ebb the flow. Probably yes. What should they do with the 11+ million illegals already in the country. I feel giving them citizenship for breaking the law is sending a message that will encourage others to do the same. Maybe they could stay but they should never be allowed to become full citizens.

If they come in legally, no problem. If they com in illegally That should be a big problem. Build the fence, Patrol the boarder, send illegals back. Mexico has no tolerance for American illegals as is their right, why should the US be any different.

One of Brian Mulroney's little-known but ruinous legacies was a huge surge in organized crime. He solved the immigration problem by using an "economic standard." In plain English, you could buy your way in, with $200k. nd who has that kind of money? Among others, drug dealers. I was living in the east end Chinatown, and saw the effects of this idiocy first-hand..

Of course, next to none of the OP's list is available to, and certainly not 'demanded' by illegals in the US. If I'm wrong, I'm sure someone will link to respectable news sources proving it. Heck, the number one measure by which the US falls short of the developed world's average is it's miserly, inneffective approach to health care. Inneffective, unavailable to many, and free only by charity, because its highest purpose in the enrichment of those who control it.

But if one's outlook on life is, "we're tops, don't trouble me with facts, just stroke my preconceptions", then I suppose reading that list could give much the same pleasure as any wank mag.

So you are telling us that there is no benefit that Latinos receive from coming to America and working for minimum wage (or less)??? In general your type of attitude infuriates me to no end.... Many immigrants today seem to think that coming to Canada or America is like winning the lottery.... all you have to do is show up here and you can live on easy street...

I also love it that so many immigrants shit on Canada and the US for "racism and discrimination".... not to say that it does not exist... but for me it is amusing how many immigrants will speak so badly of Canada and how much better their homelands are.... as if no racism or discrimination exists in their homelands... yet in places like Sierra Leone, Darfur and others around the world, you will get killed if you happen to be of the wrong territory...

This debate is highly politicized. On the one end you have ethically dubious corporations and companies that want the cheap labour. On the other end you have unions who have been generally losing position in their various industries and they see illegal workers that they would like to organize and in the middle a bunch of economic refugees looking for a better deal. Illegal immigration is bad because these people are still being exploited even thought they are now in the US. If you Enforce the boarder then These companies will have to get more effiecient or pay better wages. If the union movement wants to help these poor unfortunate people they should go down to Mexico and organize them there to improve local work conditions. If conditions were better in Mexico then they wouldn't have to sneak into the US to improve their lot in life. So in my opinion the May Day protest is taking place on the wrong side of the border. But nobody protesting today wants to spend time in a Mexican Jail so it's easier to make a stink in the US. It's like the old joke about the guy who loses his contact lens. He loses in a dark alley but he begins his search under the lamp, out in the street because the light is better out there. If you want control of the problem you have to go to the root source. Ignore greedy business, Ignore greedy unions, Ignore opourtunistic politicans. Enforce the border, a revolution needs to take place in Mexico to change conditions.

I don't care where they're from, I don't like the idea of allowing illegals to become legal citizens. It's a slap in the face to all the immigrants who went through the system legally and took the time and money to do so.

I place a lot of the blame on the companies and individuals who are hiring these people. If they hired citizens and paid them the proper wages and benefits they would be earning a lot less money.
