What's new? First there was Brother Jonathan, then when U.S. Presidents began to travel overseas while in office, Woodrow Wilson was pretty much hated by Lloyd George and Clemenceau. Sir Winston Spencer-Churchill and W. L. Mackenzie King got along with FDR and then Harry Truman because they had too, but there wasn't a great deal of love lost between them. Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher got along, but his relations with Continental leaders to put it mildly weren't stress free.
What's new is that this President is clueless and bumbling.

The painful reality is that the US hasn't been able to count on NATO for decades..... ISAF - US command phrase was "I Suck At Fighting"

Over 65 years of a thoughtful, effective and mutually beneficial geopolitical alliance tarnished by an ignorant, boorish, bully and buffoon.

Macron shamed Trump on two separate occasions. LOL.

Please list the instances where the US homeland was attacked and NATO failed to respond to a US request for assistance under Article 5.

Trump should be treating the rest of NATO as "Allies" and not as some sort of thieves. He sucks up to Putin and even his own son-in-law is working himself to aligning with the Russians. The back channel communications with the Russians is obvious and Merkel was right to say what she said about Trump. On the other hand look at how Macron lashed out at Putin with regards to his interference in free and democratic elections. Macron is proving to be a driving force in NATO. Trump on the other hand is a huge disaster.

If you think all this is solely due to Trump then you haven't been paying attention and are naive. Germany has their own ambitions but due to history have to be careful. And Trump is a godsend for Germany to press their claim as the Primo Nation.

They are also playing for the locals right now. Trump is a great bogeyman for Merkel. A nice distraction from her own immigration problems ,right before the election. Once it's over quiet negotiations will happen and most of the status quo will remain.

Sean Spicer, speaking on behalf of the Idiot in Chief said Trump's relationship with Merkel is 'fairly unbelievable'.

Awesome, extraordinary, super-duper!

Fake platitudes aside, Germany, France, Europe and NATO can barely conceal their disdain and mockery for Trump.

They have always had disdain for America. Dating way back. Its just that as the senior partner in NATO they didn't overtly insult them. But Trump is crass. No doubt about that. And it's an election year and the USA always makes for good copy when bashing them. Note how quickly they are willing to jettison relations as well. It's a two way street. Germany especially probably wouldn't mind less British and American influence on foreign policy in Europe. France as well.

Be Pragmatic there A. A lot of political talk but no one has actually pulled out, added spending or otherwise compromised NATO. And I don't see why the nation's of Europe shouldn't bear a greater responsibility and greater say in their own Foreign policy.

It can be a win win. People are just afraid of change. And soon the USA may be on another front in N Korea.

Let us them take care of Russia for a change.

I'm curious how big a contingent they sent to Afghanistan. I know we spilt blood there. And stayed a damn long time.

Get off your high horses. None of the NATO countries has ever been attacked (which was the whole purpose of the alliance)

Well so I mea culpa.

And what's interesting is how it also states it's the FIRST time since WWII that German Troops were deployed in a combat zone. Although as it also states in the quiet area.

Sounds to me like they only contributed so long as they could go where the chances of getting hurt were minimal and didn't engage at all in forward movements.

So it's just 'situation normal' on the NATO front, no need to worry?

1) Every president,, when giving a speech to NATO members, has reaffirmed their staunch support of Article 5. Every president except the resident buffoon.

2) The Idiot in Chief has demonstrated an abnormal affection, devotion and seeming indenture to the leader and country that has been underlying reason for the existence of NATO and the deterrent nature of NATO against Soviet/Russian aggression and intervention in Europe for over 65 years.

3) The Evil Loser President for all intents and purposes seems to be jettisoning over 65 years of Western Democratic geopolitical and economic doctrine and policy as a bulwark against autocratic, undemocratic ideologies.

4) A newly reinvigorated Russian has been massing troops and manpower along the Balkans, the Baltic countries and central Europe as well as actively engaging in subversion of democratic institutions and elections. Forays into Italian democracy are very active and disturbing.

And you want us to believe that under The Greatest Leader Ever, the situation is normal.

Nice Hyperbole. But again. What has actually changed? Have any troops come home? Bases closed? Less airpower? Removal of missile and anti missile systems?

Just some harsh words during a bunch of elections. And perhaps some nations realizing that due to fiscal constraints and commitments elsewhere the USA needs them to step up for THEIR OWN DEFENSE. Don't you think they should do that? They should have to spend blood and treasure in defense of their own nations?

Why is The USA solely responsible for the defense of Europe while they enjoy their socialist spending? And wag their finger at the backward Americans and their private health system?

Bernie would have done the same thing.

Sounds to me like they were banned from sending their troops over seas by international diplomatic and internal political consensus for several decades after WW2 because they left a bad taste in everyone's mouth in the 1940's. Sounds to me like they stepped forward in Afghanistan and sent a large force which took casualties. Sounds to me like I might know more about this than you do.

But feel free to take a little time and use Google.

What hyperbole? The Orange Buffoon has created an international crisis with America's long-term closest ideological and military allies because he secretly craves Putin's man-tool.

I'd be more likely to believe you if Putin had some stunningly pretty nubile female relative.

Don't judge Trump too harshly on this. It was inevitable that Europe would diverge from USA in fighting never ending wars against invented enemies.
