I’m not advocating for the CCP, but when you have a strong government dictating law, policy, and strategy, the results are undeniable.
In addition to its economy, economic partnerships, and military strength, its diplomatic influence is burgeoning.
China is investing billions of dollars in key infrastructure projects across Africa and Asia. These emerging nations are now subservient to China.
The US has been a superpower for 75 years.
China has a history that goes back Millennia.

How is China worse the. America these days? I mean they have concentration camps for muslims, the US bombs the hell out of muslims. When China wants to expand their power the go and build infrastructure in exchange for political power. America just thinks up an excuse to bomb or sanction them. Am I missing something? America has spent so many years destroying other countries that they have no other alternatives.
They created the 'monster' China and now they could fall victim to their creation.
The Vietnamese have fucked up China on several occasions, most recently in 1979 when the PRC decided to "punish" the Viet Minh for invading fellow Maoist state Kampuchia (Cambodia). The Bloodiest Battle before WW I happened during the Ly - Song War, when China's Song Dynasty tried to conquer Vietnam. 150,000 soldiers lost their lives in the Battle of Nhu Guyet River, the War turned out to be bloody stalemate and both sides sued for peace.
Things have changed since 1979. Don't think Vietnam wants to get into it with China anymore.
Probably won't do them much good once China takes over. They can at least learn to say "yes boss".
A lot of people, who pay taxes on their earnings and spend what is left over into the economy, are required to produce that much hardware. The same goes for the people employed by the military. To say that there is NO ROI, is not accurate.
And who can put a price on knowing that your defences are helping to keep the country secure?
Notice there hasn't been any reaction from muslims in retaliation to China's stamping out of Islam in the Uyghur Autonomous Region. Bulldozing of mosques. Outlawing the religion. Not a peep out of muslims elsewhere, anywhere in the world. I guess they don't fancy their chances.
And China gets all the oil it wants/need without pissing away treasure and wasting blood.
