 McCabe was brutal last night, on the ice for every ottawa goal, with a -4 rating. Look at the OT winner, McCabe decides not to go after Spezza - o.k. fine, at least cover the fucking guy in front of the net instead - but no, McCabe just stands there and looks at Eves when he scores ... GET THE FUCK OFF THE ICE MCCABE! How much are we paying this bum? $7M? P.M. needs to bench his overpaid ass and let him ride the pine for awhile.

I think Maurice should send him a message by cutting down his ice time. If he even says a word, force a trade on him!!!

Sundin needs to take 50% of the blame..

..on that play...he musta been taking lessons on defense from MCCabe ... on one knee, trying to poke check a stickhandler like Spezza....DUMB !!!...a little use of the body check wooulda been nice..

..overall, an enertaining pre season game....no reason to get your shorts too much in a knot..BTW...that deflection off Sundin's skate was a goal by the new rules...refs blew that one..especailly being so pompous as to not go check the replay..

LOL yeh, right. Teams will be just lining up to take him for $7 million a year. You would have more luck demoting him to the AHL. No problem passing waivers because nobody would take him at that price.

Exactly right! No team in their right mind would shell out that kind of dough for McCabe. The Leafs are stuck with him, unless JFJ can work out a multi player trade for him, and seeing how terrible he is at negotiating, I wouldn't expect him to get much from it. Another $7M down the drain.

I agree with you guys...Spezza being allowed to skate around like that...fuck!....check him for christ sake!.....that goal by Sundin WAS legal...you are allowed to redirect a shot with your skate, as long as there is not a distinct kicking motion.....goal was legal...period.

For everyonre that counts , one doesn't ... last years playoffs.. example explanation....

An official in the Toronto war room explained that decision to the New York Daily News, (a no goal) saying Rachunek directed the puck into the net with his skate and a "distinct kicking motion" wasn't the sole standard in ruling on such plays.

While these are tough calls, the inconsistency in these types of rulings don't do the league a bit of good.

The rule is ambiguous at best ..

Hes making about 5.5million.

Because of that no other team will take him. Plus he has a no trade and no movement clause in his contract. His agent played JFJ big time.

That doesn't mean they can't let him sit in the press box and collect his 5.5 till he gets tired of it and requests a trade... He had a great season when he redid his contract, and now he plays like the bum he is...

While sitting in the press box might convince McCabe to sign off on a trade, putting a $5.5m player there may not be possible politically for jfj. It would also likely create a lot of tension and distraction in the dressing room. The only way to really trade him is to agree to pay part of his salary. So in future years, McCabe's salary comes out of the Leaf's salary cap. Bundling him up in a package deal, you would have to make the rest of the deal very attractive to get another team to go for it. You're probably looking at eating part of the salary in that scenerio too.

gladheateher,Mr.420,new2game, lube monkey, you guys are rediculous thinking someone's to blame on that 4 on 3 situation. anyone that plays/played hockey knows better.

atleast new2game knows it shared responsibilty on that play... However, the whole idea of keeping an elite power play talent like Spezza to the perimeter while collapsing when 4-on-3 is correct hockey in that circumstance... challenge, but don't commit and definitely don't open a seam to allow Spezza inside... it's almost impossible to prevent a goal if the puck is allowed to enter the perimeter and land on the positioned offensive player. then it's up to the goalie, but not his fault.

kudos needs to be given to Spezza for being so patient... and that was an oh so sweet heel-drag-switch move on Sundin!

Everyone forgets that John Ferguson Junior who's a puppet to the MLSE brass shouldn’t be the only person taking the blame on keeping this stiff around! Ever since McCabe signed that lucrative deal he’s gone down hill and there’s no reason for him to prove otherwise! Why would he with every clause possible in his contract to keep him here despite being a primary reason why this defence will falter again this year!

I agree, cut his ice time, bench him, and hopefully he’ll ask for a trade because that’s the only way we’re getting rid of this jackass!

McCabe stealing money from the Leafs:

The deal was a 5 year, $27 million dollar deal paying Nash $3.5 million in 2005-06, $4.5 million in 2006-07, $5.5 million in 2007-08, $6.5 million in 2008-09, and $7 million in 2009-10.

so are you saying he's Czech or Russian? lol...

actually, we already knew McCabe's defensive game always sucked... it just so happened that his contract renewal came 'at a convenient time for him'...

No, I do not believe that he stole it from the Leafs. I understand your issue but he today would get more money than the original contract. He produces, and he is an excellent player.

Look at his points, compare him , he will have a good year.

Also, It really is only exhibition.

I remember last year at home vs the Canucks, were he was on the ice for 4 goals. Each time the goal was scored he was nowhere near the net, or late getting to his man, or on his ass swiping at air. I literally called all the goals that Vancouver scored when MCabe was on the ice. He was so awful I was ashamed that he was wearing the jersey of my favorite team. He should thank Kaberle for all the points he gets. No Kaberle, no padded numbers!

This is not the only screw up he has made. He may not be the only reason why the Leaf defense is the pits, but he does more harm then good on a constant basis. I dont see why they dont move him to the wing? Leafs need offence big time, why not slot him in there. He can skate, moves the puck well and has above average offensive capabilities, I dont know what they are waiting for?

They should of let him walk away after he asked for big time $$$. I would of used that kind of cash to lure Pronger. I'm sure his wife would of loved Toronto.

If I were the same size as McCabe I would be thundering guys into the boards and making them think twice coming into the zone with there head down. He is a big dude and built like a rock, too bad he doesnt use his body to strike fear in opposing players. But that tenacity has left him along with his defensive abilities.

it is interesting isn't it... we coulda had PRONGER instead of McCabe. (for less $$$)

BTW- Pronger is a good buddy of Paul Maurice.

I know that you know these details better than me but I think that is not a fair comparison as I recall that Pronger could have been traded for ( Kaberle and Stajan ????) so I think its more detailed than just saying Pronger vis a vis McCabe

it's not vis a vis. if you read the thread, you know that McCabe coulda been left to walk to NYI's like he wanted. An offer sheet coulda been sent to Pronger paying him almost 2mil more per season then what he settled for...(McCabe's salary at the time)
