I like keegan bradley or Adam Scott heading into this year's masters.

In some ways it's good not to have tiger's health playing a factor

3 players can get the first crack at world #1 with a victory.

Scott
Stenson
Day

Haven't done the math, but I think a top 2 gets it for Scott.

I wouldn't count out Sergio either. He is playing well back to #6 in the world (almost a tie for #5).

His head is apparently in a good place right now... which I doubt will last for a long time.

from the telegraph

There are 97 players in the 2014 Masters field but here, courtesy of a nine-step eliminator based on historical precedents, is your failsafe guide to determining who will be wearing the green jacket come Sunday evening.

‘NINE STEPS TO HEAVEN’

1. In 80 years, no amateur has ever won the Masters.

(6 eliminated, 91 remaining)

Golfers eliminated: Oliver Goss, Matt Fitzpatrick, Chang-Woo Lee, Jordan Niebrugge, Garrick Porteous, Michael McCoy.

2. No Augusta rookie has savoured Masters victory since Fuzzy Zoeller defeated Ed Sneed and Tom Watson in a play-off in 1979.

(18 eliminated, 73 remaining)

Golfers eliminated: Harris English, Graham DeLaet, Jordan Spieth, Patrick Reed, Jimmy Walker, Billy Horschel, Victor Dubuisson, Chris Kirk, Stephen Gallacher, Joost Luiten, Brendon de Jonge, Kevin Stadler, Matt Jones, Jonas Blixt, Matt Every, Steven Bowditch, Roberto Castro, Derek Ernst.

3. Augusta’s Arcadian fairways have in recent years been no country for all men. Indeed, the past 14 winners have all been under 40; the last 40-plus winner was Mark O’Meara, then 41, in 1998.

(29 eliminated, 44 remaining)

Golfers eliminated: Thomas Bjorn, Ángel Cabrera, KJ Choi, Stewart Cink, Darren Clarke, Fred Couples, Ben Crenshaw, Ken Duke, Ernie Els, Jim Furyk, Stephen Gallacher, Thongchai Jaidee, Miguel Ángel Jiménez, Bernhard Langer, Sandy Lyle, David Lynn, Phil Mickelson, Larry Mize, Mark O’Meara, José María Olazábal, John Senden, Vijay Singh, Craig Stadler, Steve Stricker, Tom Watson, Boo Weekley, Mike Weir, Lee Westwood, Ian Woosnam, YE Yang.

4. A first-time PGA Tour winner at the Masters is an extremely rare phenomenon. Since 1948, there have only been two – Bernhard Langer in 1985 and Charl Schwartzel in 2011.

(9 eliminated, 35 remaining)

Golfers eliminated: Jamie Donaldson, Victor Dubuisson, Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño, Branden Grace, Peter Hanson, Matteo Manassero, Hideki Matsuyama, Francesco Molinari, Thorbjorn Olesen.

5. The past 15 champions at Augusta all made the cut at the previous year’s Masters.

(7 eliminated, 28 remaining)

Golfers eliminated: Russell Henley, Hunter Mahan, Graeme McDowell, Louis Oosthuizen, Ian Poulter, Webb Simpson, Kevin Streelman.

6. Twelve of the past 14 Masters winners had a top-50 finish at the last year’s PGA Championship. The two majors might be eight months apart, but form can clearly carry from one season to the next.

(13 eliminated, 15 remaining)

Golfers eliminated: Ryan Moore, Scott Stallings, Sergio García, Brandt Snedeker, Tim Clark, Gary Woodland, Bubba Watson, Charl Schwartzel, Luke Donald, John Huh, Nick Watney, Lucas Glover, Trevor Immelman.

7. Local knowledge of this slice of the Georgia pines is crucial. Sixteen of the past 22 winners boasted a previous top-10 finish at the Masters.

(9 eliminated, 6 remaining)

Golfers eliminated: Sang-Moon Bae, Keegan Bradley, Jason Dufner, Rickie Fowler, Bill Haas, Dustin Johnson, Martin Kaymer, Rory McIlroy, DA Points.

8. There is a pattern of peaking at the right moment. Six of the past 13 Masters winners had a PGA Tour victory earlier in the season.

(Four elimated, two remaining)

Golfers eliminated: Adam Scott, Matt Kuchar, Marc Leishman, Juston Rose.

9. Perhaps the most astonishing statistic in golf in 2014 is that of the past 21 major championships, 15 have yielded a first-time winner. That rules out Zach Johnson, the 2007 Masters winner, and leaves your champion-in-waiting as Australia’s Jason Day.

(One eliminated, one remaining)

Golfer eliminated: Zach Johnson.

And your winner is: Jason Day.

Interesting article and fun to read but severely flawed.

The most blatant example:

They say 6 of 13 had a same season victory and eliminated those that didn't, when in fact more Masters winners did not have a same season win.

I only point it out as it was not your work. I'd have been suitably impressed:hail: if you came up with that such that I'd have kept my mouth shut.

Respectable round for Weir, 1 over on the day.

DeLaet, however, is 6 over after 7. He may eliminate himself on the first day.

The truth is for me, since no Tiger my interest has dropped for the Masters. Still it should be interesting on Sunday, on who can win that ugly green jacket.

MAJOR SCORING RECORD WATCH

Gary Woodland is -7 under after 10 holes, with the easily reachable 13 and 15 par 5's still to come. -9 under would tie the major scoring record of 63.

One of the amazing things about the record of 63 is that it has been tied somewhere between 20-30 times, but it has never been broken, Today may be the day.

So much for that.

Woodland Bogeys the 11. That in itself could be overcome as it is a tough hole with some easy holes coming up.

But then he hits it in the water on #12, and will get at least a Bogey and probably a Double.

Bubba may have replaced Phil as my most hated golfer.

Such a baby. Whenever he hits a bad shot or putt, its always a stare down at his caddy, because surely it is never Bubba's fault. Augusta is tailor made for his enormous talents. But would love to see him choke and blame everybody else like he typically does.

Bubba Wins.

No doubt that Bubba is a good guy within a bit of a quirky personality. But I just don't like golfers who take no personal accountability for the decisions they make on the golf course -- and Bubba has clearly shown up his caddy at least a half dozen times over the past year.

With those 5-10% paychecls, I am sure he willingly takes it!!

Tell us how you really feel.

At least Bubba and Phil have personality and nice, real families...
They're not Zombie Drones from the US College Robot factory...
Or lying, cheating sociopaths like Tiger Woods.

No denying his unique shot making ability and talents. Augusta is really tailored for a lefty power hitter who can cut the ball on all the par 5's which all work from right to left.

His driving was outstanding all week -- a little looser today, but he was showing more shot making today.

Have no issue with Bubba as a person. He is real and genuine. I just dont like the many times he has stared down or blamed his caddy.

As for Phil seems like you bought into the image he and his team have worked hard to manufacture.
