the hobby needs more capitalism
I spent the money on Cold FX years ago, it did nothing. Total waste of money. After watching Marketplace I understand why. good post, thanks.
I'm the complete opposite. Used to have really bad colds until I started taking in regularly during winter months.

I don't eat fruit.
I don't take vitamins.
I don't take Fx, Probiotics, echinacea, cod liver oil,or any new age discoveries.
I don't get flu shots.

I did drink from a hose when I was a kid.
I did interact with many other kids when I was young.
I shared drinks with other kids.
I did get the normal number of colds/flus as a kid.

I did develop a good immune system. I rarely get more than a sniffle.

you coined the term "behold the dog" ( who chews anything and sniffs butts and shit but never seems to get sick)
you did syphon gas with your mouth and a hose
you did sniff Lepages
you did smoke Players plain
you never understood that most new age medicine is actually old age folk medicine

You'll probably live until you die.

Marketplace Fall 2012, starts tonight with more reports on misleading labeling on products you buy. A product that clams to be 98% natural because it includes the water in it, contrary to most practices. Again government consumer protection guidelines are useless.

This weeks show highlighted the problems with dog food and treats. In the US the FDA have some control over it. In Canada, no one does.

In recent years there have been 2000+ reports and 300+deaths from kidney failure and the connection seems to be chicken jerky treats sold under different names and made in China. Lack of regulation mean the companies don't have list ingredients or tell you where the food is made. In Canada nothing is being done and in the US the FDA has an investigation going to get to the bottom of things. It would appear the ingredient that is suspected in Glycerin, but it not certain.

If you feed your pups these chicken jerky treats don't.

Just be aware that most cold and flu remedies will raise blood pressure. If you're taking heart meds like I do, the only medication that won't raise blood pressure is Coricidan. It's not the best but does the job adequately enough.

I've been scrubbing my nuts with tea-tree oil soap for the last six months or so. No colds! I think I patent this.

Hotels; part deaux

The next you stay in a hotel, for an hour, a day, or longer, just remember the findings Marketplace broadcasted. The six major hotels tested, all had ignorantly high counts of e-Coli, mold, and MRSA on multiple surfaces along with the usual suspects of bodily fluids. The scientist doing th test said he would never sleep in the beds with pj's. They even evidence of fecal contamination in all of the ice machines and mini fridges.

Of course all but one of the hotel chains refuse interviews and all communicated, most by e-mail, they would review procedures.

As one who generally sleeps in the nude, I will be taking pj's for my next trip, for sure.
