Assuming Marner signs in the $10 million+ range those 4 players will consume almost half the cap. Can you field a competitive team if you have $43m to sign 19 players?Someone, and by that I mean a top player or two are going to have to be moved. Obviously not Matthews, Marner, Tavares or Nylander. Although most probably feel like trading the Willy at the moment. Gardiner will be gone at the end of the year.
If he goes completely AWOL during the playoffs again this year would those count as games played?I'd only pay him per game played.
As far as the bonus money goes apparently Marner’s agent was told the Leafs don’t give out schedule B bonuses but they then gave one to Matthews so I guess Marner’s agent is a little pissed at Dubas. I’d like to know how much Dubas offered as an opening offer. That’s not completely accurate. Marner got Schedule A bonuses included in his entry level contract (~$850K), while Matthews had both Schedule A and B bonuses in his ELC (~$2.8 million). This is likely why they chose to wait until Matthews signed his deal before starting their negotiations - they didn’t want to get burned again. I don’t like the timing of Marner’s agent deciding to speak out. They say nothing all year, and now, on the day that Matthews signs his deal, you decide to talk about what happened last summer? But I guess that using the media when it suits your purpose is what it’s all about these days.
Dubas or Lamiorello? If Lou, then maybe Dubas gets a mulligan. As far as the bonus money goes apparently Marner’s agent was told the Leafs don’t give out schedule B bonuses but they then gave one to Matthews so I guess Marner’s agent is a little pissed at Dubas. You over estimate leafs ability to not turn the puck over trying to carry it through the trap each and every time.At best the stretch passes only work one third of the time. Our speed should be able to break the neutral zone trap.
Also, they had Scott Stevens who almost killed a concussed Lindros.Jersey won the cup that way when teams had no choice but to carry it though the trap due to 2 line passes being illegal at the time.
I remember that hit. It was so had I even felt it watching it through the telly. Also, they had Scott Stevens who almost killed a concussed Lindros.
I knew which hit that was without watching. Would that be considered suspendable nowadays?Speaking of hits, I remember watching this game when Clarke laid out Bruce Bell. The youtube comments are hilarious!
After Clarke knocks him out, they just left him there on the ice and everyone gathered around to watch Clarke fight. Completely ignoring the guy unconscious on the ice.
He doesn’t get the respect nor the credit compared to Auston, but I think he will finish as a better Leaf.If Marner scores 100 points and he might this season, he will join Sittler and Gilmour in the Leaf 100 point club.
BTW: I think that most of Marner's assists are 1st man assists. The Hyman and Tavares goals are perfect set-ups by Marner.
He's already killing penalties and plays every game. Not sure we should overwork him. He's only slightly bigger than Dave Keon who was exempt from some practice sessions.carrying more of a load and more well rounded.
