And you suggested a few posts above that they responded on mass because they knew what the situation was and came in huge numbers because nothing could be more important, right? Didn't they know they might need a taser for that kind of thing? That's why I said that they should have called for more qualified help instead of just shooting the guy. Yes, they responded on mass because there would be nothing more important. If the police are responding to some guy cutting up people on a bus, they would not bring a tazer. Tazer's are far too unreliable to be used in a life or death situation.
Will agree a tazer would have been nice to have and use in the situation as it was before the guy was shot. Would have preferred the kid was tazered and spend some time in jail, and hopefully grew up to live a normal life.
A sniper could have also walked right up to that door and shot him in the knee. You are making it more difficult than it should be.I think that would be a hard shot to take even for the ETF. You have curved glass at the front and back of the street car and lots of poles obscuring the view. I believe shooting through glass especially curved is tricky since the bullet loses a lot of energy and can be unpredictable. Even from the side it would be a hard shot because the kid is high off the ground and there wouldn't be an optimal line of fire. A sniper would need a stable platform to take the shot from. The roof of a cruiser or a ladder might do in an extreme pinch, but those are hardly stable.

What is intersesting is that previous reports that SM had ordered the passengers off the streetcar were wrong. He was on fact ordering them NOT to get off the streetcar when they ran for it.
It sounds to me like he was planning on taking hostages(or had made the last minute decision too). Kind of puts him in a different light now.

Actually he intentions matter. A lot. IF they had been somehow communicated to the officers on site. Because then it goes from scared, distraught 18 year old possibly having a breakdown to knife weilding would be hostage taker of middle eastern descent(to bad about profiling but that's the real world) on public transit.
