It's fucking common sense. Are all our cops drones? If he says it's time to re-visit police training, then maybe that's an admission of negligence or excessive use of force.[/QUOTE]

or more likely just an admission the training has to be reviewed, occum's razor boyko.

(I hate when people use that OR like as if it explains all but only diverts attention from the real answer.)

WHY does it have to be reviewed?

Review and see if words 'like plug the little prick until he stops moving' should be put in the guidelines. 'Plug him fast or plug him slow, depending on if it's near the end of the shift or not.'

Or words like 'shoot first and ask questions later', OR 'go ahead, make my day'.

GTA
When the driver side cop asked me for my ownership and insurance, I turned on the interior light as I reached for my glove box. I noticed in my passenger side mirror that the other cop put his hand on top of his sidearm just in case I pulled out a gun, but he could easily see with the interior light on).

So I guess they all go through nervous moments.
I was passing through Jane/Finch and got pulled over, and they did the same thing (one officer was on the passenger side, hand on his gun and watching what I was going to be doing.

Many years ago, I was stumbling home from a night of heavy drinking, and witnessed a take down. Guy was in his X5, and 5 cop cars pulled up and blocked him off.
They jumped out with guns drawn, yelling at him to get out of the car and lie down on the ground. The guy took what seemed like 5 mins before he got out of the car.
The police were yelling at him to lie facedown on the ground, as they approached him with guns drawn. At this point he hesitated, and reached for
his back pocket, but they tackled him to the ground before anything happened. I watched as they searched the car, but did not find a gun. They took him away in the police car.

I could not help but think that if I was a cop, I would not have bothered trying to tackle him, I would have started firing first and ask questions later.
I was also shocked that when they told him to lie down on the ground, he reached for his back pocket.

Apparently Forcillo did as well, because the 4 inch knife alone should not have been that scary. So if you feel the situation could have been resolved without the use of deadly force.. I don't see how you can then defend the actions of the officer...!!???
According to the Deadliest Warrior and other sources, 3 inches are more than enough to kill (insert penis joke here). Smaller blades can also kill or cripple if they hit the right place.

Common sense has to come from people they stop or pull over. Always have your hands high on the steering wheel and don't ever make a move. Ask if you have to move. Communication HAS TO BE IMPORTANT. Make eye contact and be sharp with questions. Cop told me people think there righteous. They think they are more important than another person.

It wasn't bad judgement.
It was horrendously bad judgement getting within striking distance of a knife wielding suspect.

It was horrendously bad judgement taking a confrontational tone and daring him to take another step.

It was horrendously bad judgement to fire six more shots at someone who was down.

I will leave the criminal investigation to the SIU but there is no doubt whatsoever that this was a blunder.

The shooter needs to be fired for incompetence whether or not it turns out to be criminal.

I guess nuttyboi has never seen the job a box cutter or rug cutter can do to the human body.

When someone pulls a knife on a cop his autopilot training kicks in.

So yes, he then becomes a "drone"

I can understand if the victim here is within arms length and the cop is in imminent danger, but when he's standing afar, it shouldn't be a panic situation like I think this was.

Honestly, how much brain power does it take to see that after three shots at close range, the victim is down, does it compute to pumping three more bullets. I could swear I heard that cop freak out. He wasn't in total control. Probably the first time he actually used his weapon in the course of his duties.

True BUT when the cop has deadly force on his side, he also has to use common sense when it's plain as day to see what poses as a real danger to himself.

Fuji, I couldn't have said it better. (Mind you, the cop is not a tactical response officer armed with superior psychological negotiation skills).

Never mind three inch blade, box cutters were the genesis of the 9/11 attacks.

In the hands of a crazy person, small blades are dangerous and can definitely maim or kill.

Bad judgement is what would happen if the circumstances happened to you.
In other words, you would've been shanked.

This is a bullshit way of saying you know you have no reasons for the things you think, but you want to go on thinking them anyway.

Since I would have stayed a safe distance back I would not have been. That is what this cop is trained to do but failed to do.

By closing the distance unnecessarily he limited his own options. He is supposed to know better. We pay for better.

Interesting that in the same post you call the cop guilty and say you will wait for the SIU.

Basically Fuji is saying that based on the information he has now, that his opinion of Constable Morcillo is that he's guilty of something.
