I would say the hippo finally had enough of that fat bastard riding on his back.
They're very territorial...they have higher attack fatality rate compared to bears and crocs...meaning if a hippo catches you, your chances of survival is very slim.

Yep. Hippos are nasty and hate humans. They kill more people in Africa than any other animal.
