I thought the title was wrong because it said "He gets 25 years as a sex offender"... Technically my issue is that the title is more ambiguous than wrong. "Gets 25 years" typically implies jail time. In fact the article says he only serves a few months in prison but has his name on a sex offender registry for 25 years.

My understanding and I am not a lawyer is that an appeal can only be launched on technical and legal grounds... That is the trial judge misinterpreted the law, did not follow the rules of evidence, ignored court procedure, etc.... From what I understand, not liking the ruling or calling the judge a boob is not grounds for appeal.

In a minority of states (20) he would have. Indeed the Michigan Supreme Court may well be ruling within the year that "she lied about her age" should be allowed as a defence to statutory rape. However, in the majority of states (30) statutory rape remains pure and simple a strict liability crime.

If her profile was 'age-verified', then he may have a case against that online hook-up company.
