Get one of your own, then you can listen to what you want and it drowns out everyone elses music.

I agree with the above poster: ignore it. The person may take it badly and may want to hurt you. Those youngsters are serious about their music. It's not worth the hassle it may cause.

You could complain, if that gets you anywhere, and you don't mind the retribution.

TTC By-law No. 1, 16a:

No person, without authorization, shall operate any radio, tape recorder, musical instrument, or similar device in or upon any vehicle or premises of the Toronto Transit Commission unless the sound therefrom is conveyed to that person by an earphone at a sound level that does not disturb other passengers.

Re:

I take more of an active approach.

I poked people and told them that their music is so loud that I can sing along to it. Mentioning that it is way too loud.

It usually works :)

There are things worth fighting for, and worth dying for.

Stupid music on a bus isn't one of them.

Well said.

Lucky you weren't around for the 80s when ghetto blasters were the norm. Those wimpy little ipods wouldn't have stood a chance.

Yeah I remember my Ghetto Blaster. I took it to school and everywhere with me. I must've spent half my babysitting money alone on batteries. I know things can be annoying at times but sometimes we have to think back to our youth too. But, I do agree the kids should not be putting those things so close to thier own ears and having it so loud that the whole bus can hear.

The ipod kid might be trying to drown out the annoying twats that are talking just as loudly into their cell phones.

Viva
This could not be more true. I would rather have sirens going off inside the bus/train than have to sit through someones stupid-ass useless conversation to their equally as daft significant other.
If I ever decided that taking another life was something I would like to pursue, you can bet my first victim would go down clenching their blackberry. ;)

This is why I tell my kids the best career for their generation (they are 13 and 8) will be an audiologist...this new generation (teens now) will need hearing aids by the time they are 30 !

i was on a bus a while ago in mississauga and the bus driver actually stopped the bus and wouldn't move it until a douche-bag passenger turned his music down.

...delay everyone else because HE had a problem with the music.

Oh and create a potential confrontational clash as well.

What happens if the "douche bag" passenger refused? Then what does the bus driver do?

What happens when a fight breaks out? People may have been annoyed before by the music, but no one was going to be hurt and everyone was getting to where they were going - right? What if someone had gotten SERIOUSLY hurt in the dust up...which start about music???

I am often surprised at how stupid people are...and how such stupidity is often celebrated...

With all due respect.......
Are you guys really that wussy?
If someone is botheing YOU..Tell them, in a firm, yet polite voice.
For Pete's sake...you are men. Act like it!
Its like the DNC list..You don't need other people to "step up" for you, do you?

How about you wave your cane at them and start a conversation saying "back in my day......."
