ARTICLE FROM THE GLOBAL AND MAIL.

Executive pay at Ontario’s lottery corporation rose by nearly 50 per cent over the past two years, despite a salary freeze for managers in the public sector. Rod Phillips, chief executive officer of the OLG, took home $672,989 in 2012, including $297,989 in bonus pay. His pay perk outstripped bonuses meted out to gambling CEOs in other provinces Not only was Mr. Phillips the province’s 12th highest-paid public-sector employee, he earned 73 per cent more than his predecessor.

If you want to win the lottery go work for OLG.

What does it take to run a lottery corporation? Sure, you must ensure no cheating by vendors, but they have all the systems up. Maybe this Rod guy made it more secure ergo the bonuses but gambling is one of the vices if not an addiction, and it doesn't take a business maverick to make a buck in it. It's a government monopoly.

Well, unfortunately we can't blame the Lotto people because people keep playing.

Yes you can blame them for cash grabs which is selling something for less value if not an inferior product. Gambling is a vice (critics call it a 'regressive tax' because it hits the poor more so, which makes it even worse) if not an addiction, so they shouldn't exploit the public to the hilt.

People will play less too if they keep this up. They won't stop playing, but maybe a little less.

I totally agree with you.
If people stop playing we would send them a clear message, but however that won't happen. I see lots of old people with fixed income buying like hundreds of dollars of lottery games/tickets every week.

Just read 649 is changing in September. Tickets will now cost $3 per line but the jackpot now starts at $5million, you can now win on 2 numbers and a special number is on all tickets that has a guaranteed $1 million winner every draw, what does everyone think? cash grab or more chances to win

sounds good to me. bigger jackpots
most people spend more than $3 anyway

It's great that the odds remain at just under 1 in 14 million.

You can increase your odds by playing more lines.

.

Yes, by doubling your play from $2 to $40 you increase your odds by -wait for it- TWO in 14 million!!!!
