I just heard they're expecting 35,000 people in Barrie. What happened to the original 100,000 I heard about? Lack of interest?

Check out the huge crowds in other cities, we should have had that here!
So far I'm disappointed by the TV coverage. Why do we get the second rate Canadian bands aired by default when better bands are playing around the world at the same time? Hopefully as the day goes on we'll get full performances by the top acts no matter where they are playing.
The idiotic Dan Ackroyd and Tom Green are embarrassments as hosts, no surprise there.

I was reading in the paper how Live 8 has been criticized for not having enough black/African talent. I really got a good chuckle when Bob Geldoff (?) simply responded that it would be nice to see the black community stage this type of event..

*crickets chirping*

That was the end of that criticism.

People have been throwing money at the children starving in Africa issue forever, and if anything, the populations have increased and situation has gotten worse. Forgiving debt sounds great, but what can be done to end this cycle? I don't think there is anything that can be done from the outside.

The only thing second rate is you Svend. This is the best assembly of Canadian talent at one venue in our Canadian history.

Avril, Alanis, Arcade Fire, Broken Social Scene, Buck 65, Daniel Lanois, Sum 41, The Stars...

While I also admire the acts that are there, there seems to be a distinct lack of players from the more contemporary music scene in Canada. It would have been nice to shine the light on some of them.

out of the 8 how many of those performers have awarness of what Live 8 is all about and actually care? I'd say Alanis and Daniel Lanois

people seem to forget this is about awarness ...not the entertainment

remember ,this concert was put together in a couple of weeks, alot of entertainers have other commitments...it is a business

if you look at the line up, most of the entertainers are outspoken on political and world issues

Avril and Sum41, at the least, were busy.
Of those others, I'm curious why you think "Buck65" isn't second-rate, but the Hip are.
Actually, I take that back - I don't really care .........

I don't believe I said the Hip was second rate, first rate or any kind of rate at all. Your "ritings" pretty good, gotta work on the "readin" ...

BTW, I'm not saying the Canadian acts chosen aren't representative of our best, just that internationally they are second rate.
Neil Young's *music* makes me retch, but that's just me.

From an entertainment standpoint the whole thing was amazing. There were bands I never heard of, and others I just don't like. However for an event such as this one that is going to happen. It was was a very impressive display of Canadian talent. As has been mentioned before, this entire event was put together in a very short period of time, so many acts couldn't be there.
The London show was of course the best of all, I mean McCartney, U2, Pink Floyd, Elton John....unreal!!
Will the event have an effect? Tough to say, and I wonder how many of these performers would be willing to cut cheques to help the cause. Nevertheless, I credit Geldof (who I don't really like) for putting it together. The intentions are very well meaning, if not a bit naive.
It was great entertainment.

Well I'm a fan of Motley Crue, I must admit they're set looked kind of sad. A bunch of over-the-hill, aging rockers doesn't make for the "coolest" of images. But at least they played some decent songs.

Having your own satellite dish... and I'm not talking about ExpressVu, DTV, or Dishnet, but a real dish with motor and Ku Band LNB you could have been watching the feeds live from Europe on.

AMC 9 @ 83 degrees west has 4 direct live feeds for Hyde Park, Rome, Berlin, and Paris.
11758(H) 24,500 SR

This is the feed that CTV was picking up for rebroadcast through there master control... watching the Hyde Park feeds was the best! And NO damn CTV commercials.... just the raw feed with very high quality video!!! There even was a HD feed… I just didn’t have a decoder for the HD side.. but even in SD it looked incredible

Sorry - I just lumped you in with the other jackoffs raining shite on the hard work and compassion of others. Next time, I'll work harder to discriminate between you.
