Like wearing a condom, wearing a mask is just common sense

I think there is a misunderstanding here. I don't know what you're talking about sorry.
Are you saying only the infected should wear masks?
No, everyone should wear a mask.

How would YOU know you're not infected NOW? You may be. So wear a mask to protect others and yourself.

You said "Dr. Tam is a fckn idiot. Cotton is not going to protect you."

Tam never said a cotton mask will protect the cotton mask wearer. She said it provides protection for OTHERS from those cotton mask wearers who are infected (whether they have symptoms or not, whether they know it or not)! So wear a mask.

You're messing with me right ? :))

Cotton doesn't protect you from anything. If you analize the fabric of cotton under a microscope you will see that the spacing/gab between the fabric of cotton is much wider then a kn95 mask.
The virus will pass through the cotton mask. If a sick person is wearing a cotton mask and sneezes or coughs the droplets will go right through it.
I don't understand why is so difficult for you to comprehend that masks work both ways.

You quoted my original post by saying that I'm misinformed.
I'm sorry to say that I'm not misinformed. The problem is that you're not able to grasp what I'm trying to explain to you.
Btw I'm telling everyine should wear a mask and you keep correcting me that everyone should wear a mask :)))
Just wear a KN95 mask or a surgical mask. A cottong mask it's not going to protect you or others.
That's why I said Dr. Tam is a fckn idiot. Cause a doctor who specializes in infectious disease should know the difference between cotton and synteric polymer (kn95).

Actually the matter has been studied & cotton masks do provide some level of protection to the wearer.

If you had read this thread you'ld have been aware of that.

If someone sneezes in your direction, the mask blocks a percentage of the virus particles. The fewer virus particles that get into you, the greater chance you have of an easier illness & not dying.

Even if that were not the case all should wear a mask to protect others.

Even wearing a piece of Kleenex or a paper towel mask will protect others from the mask wearer who is infected. The kleenex will block many virus particles during a sneeze, cough, or just while talking.

Sure it can stop some droplets the same way if you cough covering your mouth.
But for me it's not a viable option. Would be the equivalent of wearing cellophane wrap for FS at a massage parlour. :))

Or maybe the problem is that you're - trying - to explain something, but it's not coming through in the words you use? Or maybe you're just trolling?

Are you? Then we agree on that point.

Just wear a KN95 mask or a surgical mask. A cottong mask it's not going to protect you or others.
No, any of those masks will provide a degree of protection for the mask wearer & others he is around.

That's why I said Dr. Tam is a fckn idiot. Cause a doctor who specializes in infectious disease should know the difference between cotton and synteric polymer (kn95).
Tam never said, as you implied, that cotton masks protect the wearer. So who's the idiot?

Fact is, though, they do provide some degree of protection.

If it doesn't protect the wearer then what's the point of it?
Plz don't say it's only for the sick lol
Masks work both ways :/

Maybe Dr. Tam should recommend Jason Mask from friday the 13th movies.

Why don't you understand that masks are made to protect sick people from spreading it and healthy people from carching it??????
We're in a 1st world country and we pay a lot of taxes. I'm not wearing a cotton mask. I want the best protection possible.
If I can't get it then I'm not going to work and staying home.
The difference between a KN95 mask and a cottong mask is HUGE.
You keep acting like a cotton mask offeres the same protection of a kn95 mask.

Also you can't wear the same mask everyday. A cotton mask needs to be washed. Do you know what happens to cotton fabric when you wash it ?
Take a wild guess.

I think a homemade cotton mask is better than nothing but not nearly as effective as a "real" mask. I was in Korea Town yesterday and the saleslady said 5 KN95 masks for $30. I asked if the KN95 is a knockoff of the N95 and at that point she said "no speak English".

At one time I thought the "K" in KN95 stood for Korea.

It? A mask? Protecting others. Duh.

And yourself.

I understand very well. Why are you so confused?

Have fun.

It provides significant protection to infected populations wearing them.

If you don't want to wash it, then kill any bugs that may be on it by heating it or just letting them die naturally as they do after a number of days. You could have 3 dozen cotton masks, alternate using them & never wash them. It's not rocket science.

You could also try putting some paper or plastic material between the mask & your face for added protection.

Also, BTW, in studies masks made out of vacuum bags were as effective as medical masks.

Let's end this cause I'm tired.

I got mine on Kijiji. Just have to be quick since kijiji takes down the adds.
Can you believe this? They take down the adds like it's illegal for civilians to purchase masks because of their incompetence.

OMG. Face Palm. You are sooooo misinformed. Read the thread & listen to all the videos.

Wearing a mask protects OTHERS from YOU (the possibly infected mask wearer)!

Wear a mask!

Otherwise you are endangering the health & life of those around you, in addition to YOUR OWN.
Ok so what was the point of this post?
Where am I misinformed?

Question: Do masks have an expiry date?

Long story short. I still have a box of masks the hospital gave me many years ago. I checked the box and there is no mention of a "best before date".

A good leader would say..
Sorry but due to shortage of medical grade masks we can not make them available to civilians atm.
You could use a cotton mask or scarf although it won't offer nearly the protection of a kn95 mask.
If you're an essential worker the government will provide proper masks for you.
Instead she intentionally misinformed the general population by telling them that masks only work for the sick and to use cotton masks.
Again Dr. Tam is a fckn idiot.

NM masks expire.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/global...ronavirus-masks-medical-supplies-expired/amp/

Even my KN95 masks have no expiration date.
Probably why so many health care workers are getting infected.
I'm telling you guys after this is over we need some heads on pikes.
