That's not what the experts are saying, masks are only for the already infected, the front line workers need them more.
How would you know who's infected, or if you are infected? Have they been tested?

People can make home made masks, so they need not deprive "front line workers" of other types of masks.

As for experts saying "masks are only for the already infected", other experts disagree:

https://www.sciencemag.org/news/2020/03/would-everyone-wearing-face-masks-help-us-slow-pandemic

"But some health experts, including the director of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, think that’s a mistake. Health authorities in parts of Asia have encouraged all citizens to wear masks in public to prevent the spread of the virus, regardless of whether they have symptoms. And the Czech Republic took the uncommon step last week of making nose and mouth coverings mandatory in public spaces, prompting a grassroots drive to hand make masks."

"...When people do venture out and interact, they’re likely to spew some saliva. “I don’t want to frighten you, but when people speak and breathe and sing—you don’t have to sneeze or cough—these droplets are coming out,” he says.

"...Despite messages from some health officials to the contrary, it’s likely that a mask can help protect a healthy wearer from infection, says Benjamin Cowling, an epidemiologist at the University of Hong Kong. Both surgical masks and the more protective N95 respirators have been shown to prevent various respiratory infections in health care workers;... “It doesn’t make sense to imagine that … surgical masks are really important for health care workers but then not useful at all for the general public,” Cowling says.

"... “I think the average person, if they were taught how to wear a mask properly … would have some protection against infection in the community.”

"... initial evidence suggests people without symptoms may also transmit the coronavirus without knowing they’re infected. Data from contact-tracing efforts—in which researchers monitor the health of people who recently interacted with someone confirmed to have an infection—suggest nearly half of SARS-CoV-2 transmissions occur before the infected person shows symptoms. And some seem to contract and clear the virus without ever feeling sick. “If I knew who was asymptomatic and presymptomatic [for COVID-19], I’d … triage the face masks to those individuals,” Monto says.

"...A key factor pushing health authorities to discourage mask wearing is the limited supply, says Elaine Shuo Feng, an epidemiologist and statistician at the University of Oxford."

[But home made & alternative masks would solve that problem & provide protection to society, reducing the number of infections, seriously ill & dead.]

"The shortage has inspired do-it-yourself movements in many countries to produce cloth masks—which CDC acknowledges can be a last resort for health care workers lacking other protection. Rigorous studies comparing cloth masks to surgical ones or investigating the ideal material for homemade masks are lacking.

Cheng expects masks to become more important in the United States and Europe once the peak of COVID-19 cases passes and social distancing restrictions loosen. “Just imagine you’re traveling in the New York [City] subway on a busy morning. If everyone wears a mask, I’m sure that it would reduce the transmission,” he says..."

On top of yo mama!
https://us.yahoo.com/news/more-americans-probably-wear-masks-141420450.html

real reason asian countries were able to contain so much are the masks that protect against asymptomatic people. Everyone wears them and dont think anything of it since they are used to it from SARS. The government wont tell you it will help because there isnt enough to go around and they want to save it for the medics. Even now i would say 80% of the people wearing masks around town are asians. Its starting to increase more the last couple of days.

Precisely.

Some folks have to learn to read between the lines of what the "experts" (i.e. government mouthpieces) say versus the reality of the situation.

In all honesty and with all due respect to “Terb medical experts”, I think I will be only be taking Covid-19 advice from “qualified medical experts”.

Interesting reading though.

Just like wearing a condom. It protects both the user & others from infection.

"... masks are effective at capturing droplets, which is a main transmission route of coronavirus, and some studies have estimated a roughly fivefold protection versus no barrier alone..."

I feel safer with it on. After all, it has been reported the virus can remain airborne for hours. So when someone sneezes or coughs it into the air, it may be flying around for hours, onto people's lips, into people's mouths, on or in people's noses, around or on people's eyeballs, etc.

A mask also offers protection against COVID-19 mutations, influenza, & the like that may arise in the future.

Seriously people- STOP BUYING MASKS!

They are NOT effective in preventing general public from catching #Coronavirus, but if healthcare providers can’t get them to care for sick patients, it puts them and our communities at risk!

See post#12, #13, #15.

The horse already left the barn.

Even if you want mask now. THere no mask available to buy anyway.

Worldwide shortage of mask !!

RIght now all mask being produced are going to governments which they are purchasing for the Frontline health Worker "

PS So stop shaming or lying to the public from wearing face mask to protect their own health due to all governments ( left or right) screwup in the first place!!

PPS I like my lungs & testicle don't want any damages causes by covic-19. Look at Japan and South Korea , and Singapore all their population wear face mask And N95 masks also.

How do we beat covic-19 ?

Bottom line everyone wear a MASKS.

Go to video 22:38

Yes, Governments & fuckup on planning for pandemics ... if government haven't spend billions of dollars on climate changes/ aka " global warming ' in the first place . If they just bought N-95 masks and or surgery facemask for everyone in the face place then Canada ( also rest of the world) would not be in deep shit!

Yes Frontline workers do need the N-95 mask more, but don't shame the public from not wearing the mask first place because of the all left & right government( previous, past , present) fuckup in the first place by not preparing for a pandemic in first place and not stock piling N95 mask.

N95 mask should be in a emergency kit that we prepared at home in advance.

Bottomline
Yes mask do help greatly.

I think it’s common sense if the nurses and doctors are wearing n95 mask to protect themselves then public should too. Like someone said there’s not enough masks out there. I think it’s time for people to using their brains instead of being lead along like sheep.

Experts disagree with one another re wearing masks (see post #21, for example). So which one to follow? Common sense & studies say masks offer protection & will help reduce the spread of this virus & others.

If they are not effective in preventing COVID-19 infection, then why are health care workers wearing them.

The truth is they are effective in preventing infection. Both studies & common sense say so:

"... masks are effective at capturing droplets, which is a main transmission route of coronavirus, and some studies have estimated a roughly fivefold protection versus no barrier alone..."

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2...ect-me-from-coronavirus-covid-19-myths-busted

I believe any reasonable barrier may help & is significantly better than nothing, from scarves to balaclavas, motorcycle helmets with face shield, Halloween masks, full face hockey masks, etc.

Almost everyone should be able to find some sort of a face shield such as those or something similar.

"How to make an effective face mask at home"

"...The researchers used regular cotton t-shirts to make no-sew face masks. First, they boiled the cotton for ten minutes in order to sterilize it. Then, they cut the cotton to size and formed a mask using one outer layer and eight inner layers that covered the nose and mouth. The mask could be tied around the wearer's head, to get a snug fit without elastic. Testing showed that this mask "offered substantial protection."

There are no masks available, whatsoever- not the proper N95 anyway. I have a decent supply in our stock, but due to the timeline uncertainties, I decided to look around, just in case. Guess what? ALL the suppliers are completely out of stock. I even pulled on some strings and did some blackmailing and the best I could get is a "maybe" commitment in 3 weeks time. That's why the "experts" keep pushing the no need for masks advise. BECAUSE YOU CAN'T GET THEM!!! They don't want a panic on their hands. The only hope will be with our American branch as the American manufacturers are really ramping up the production and there should be a sufficient supply down South in a couple of months.

Thank you very much for your advice gentlemen but “qualified medical experts” have kept me somewhat healthy for many years and I see no reason to discount their advice now.
I have read way way more information that says masks could actually be detrimental to an individual instead of a benefit. My personal physician has said the exact same thing and he has not given me bad advice yet.
My “common sense” has served me well so far and I find being a sheep has kept me very warm during the winter. The fabulous thing about a democracy is that every individual is free to make their own choices.

Again, thank you for your concern and advice. Baaaaaaaa

Np. Your right we all have the right to our own choice and opinions If they are detrimental to individuals why do doctors and nurse wear them? I guess it’s just some new style fad that sweeping world.

Research is your friend. Ask a medical professional instead of a pooner on an escort review site. Good luck.

They had months to build up stock. It’s crazy I’ve even seen celebrities on insta asking people to donate masks to hospitals
