Is $130/month a good price for Lifetime? It's a 12-month commitment with a 14-day trial ($150/month if no commitment).

They've got a sale on today to waive initiation fees.

$130 a month. seems very steep to me for just a gym. I can pay that at a MMA gym with a full weightroom/octagon/boxing ring and classes that run everyday for that much. 130 seem high just for weights and cardio.

I used to pay $400 for a year back in 2010. have memberships increased that much?

That seems way to high. Before getting a corporate discount through work I was paying $700 a year for Goodlife and that gave me access to every gym they had. Goodlife also has some really nice locations. One of the best is in Vaughan at Keele and Hwy 7. Was built as a gold's gym and Goodlife bought a few months after it opened.

I pay around 1/2 as much for a Goodlife Fitness membership.

But it comes down to convenience and how often you work out, over the long term. And what you do - the Mississauga location has indoor and outdoor pools so if you are into it and the lane swim hours are good, it would probably be worth it.
That building also has squash courts and a climbing wall so if you're going to use all the facilities, it's probably worth it. If you are only going to lift weights, there are other gyms with better pricing in Mississauga.

And if you are going to join, I recommend opening a 'Companion account' at your bank (might have different term, that is what TD calls it). You set it up so each month the gym membership fee is automatically transferred from your main account to the Companion account. And you pay the gym through your companion account. {edit: If you want to quit after a year, tell the gym you quit, and stop the transfers to the companion account. That way they can't keep taking money from you).
Do not pay a gym through your main bank account or credit card.

Guys, this isn't a comparison to Goodlife or other mid to low tier gyms (I pay $46/month at Goodlife). Lifetime is a high end luxury gym so the rates are higher. Just curious if $130 is comparable to other high end gyms or not.

hey keebler

I've been a member of lifetime since it first opened in canada

I assume you are considering joining the new one in vaughan? Because the mississauga one does not offer contract, it's month to month only.

They do not change their prices, everyone is paying roughly 130-150 a month. I am paying around 135 plus taxes, my rate is grandfathered because i've been there a long time. the prices tend to go up by a couple bucks every 6 months or so.

I would reccomend you give it a shot, but don't take the contract... ive seen lots of people come & go. All the hot trophy wives and hookers that go there are enough to keep me working out :)

Places like Premier & Goodlife had $99 & $200 yearly memberships back in 2010
Even $400 is double but I can't imagine any gym being worth more than $100 per month
That shit is just loco

Trying it out. So far totally worth it.
Could you provide some details? How was the registration process? What's your contract? How are you making payments? Were you given a tour of the facility? What are you doing besides lifting weights to make the high price totally worth it? Were you given a fitness test? Offered any options for a personal trainer? Is there a co-ed sauna? Hot tub? Are you taking group classes? How often do you go?

Pretty much all of the above. They start your initial visit off by sitting you down and telling you the price. It was pretty clear to me they don't want to waste time giving people a tour if they're going to get sticker shocked at the end. Payments can be month to month ($150) or 12-month contract ($130). Plus tax. They recently had $0 registration so I got that, dunno what it normally is but I think they said over $100. They then give you the grand tour. You get a free fitness test and nutrition evaluation if you want them. They offered Lifetime Dollars, which can be used for personal training but I passed. That was about it for selling me on a personal trainer. There is a co-ed sauna as well as male and female specific saunas; same for hot tubs. Change rooms for families, males, and females. Climbing wall if you're into that.

For me I like the open space, great ventilation, HUGE selection of machines, better hours, better parking, all the towels you want (small or large), a restaurant to eat or buy protein shakes on site, and the outdoor pool. Haven't tried the sauna or hot tub yet. They also have a Eucalyptis steam room that I want to check out. Oh yeah, free shampoo/conditioner/body lotion/razors/shaving cream is a nice touch. Lockers have built in combo locks which is nice.

Oh yeah, HOTTER CHICKS!

Downsides are the price and a lot more kids/families than a normal gym. I think they offer good deals for families as it appears to be the go-to place for families to hang out (mostly on the pool deck though).

Thumbs up from me!

As I do not actually go to the gym, I prefer to be locked in for 12-month periods at a lower rate.
