I drive a 540i and the time has come for a different car. Do any of you own or have driven the Lexus ls 430 or 460, any opinions?

Thanks in advance for your input.

Its a bullet proof car! Great choices!

There is a BIG price difference between the 430 and 460 though....

If you can afford the LS460 then it would be worth while looking at the Mercedes s550. If you plan on keeping the vehicle long term I would suggest the LS460, if its a short term 2-3 year thing then go for the s550 as its visually more appealing but will depeciate more in value when it comes time to sell it.

The direct competition of a 5 series BMW is a Lexus GS, these LS460 and s550 would be comparable to the 7 series BMW

I had a 535i. I shopped the LS460 (I really like the understated look), but I couldn't do it.

The LS is a totally different car than the 540. If you like the 5-er, get the GS.

The LS is for cruising and boulevarding (I know, not a verb). It's a fine car, but it ain't no 5-series.
The Lexus has lots of toys in it,but as far as driver responsive handling BMW is far superior. A Volvo S80 will handle better than a Lexus, even if it doesn't show as nice.

I appreciate the Lexus, mainly because if you are not in the know then it is just an overpriced Toyota. The "brand" names still to date draw far too much attention, have you ever gone to Walmart for anything driving in a "badged" vehicle. An associates car broke down (make and model) irrelevant, and he brought out his 1992 ls 400 that he bought from new, the car rides and out performs many "luxury" cars (quality build, ride, comfort, acceleration) being manufactured today.IMHO.

I got all three and all different rides. The Bimmer responds better to the road and has more control, but the Lexus has a softer, smoother, quieter ride, more of an old man's car like me, lol. Believe it or not, the Lexus handles much better in the snow, including my xxxx. Overall, I prefer my xxxx, a very solid, smooth ride with acceptable response. It all depends on what you're looking for in your driving experience.

A BMW 540 is nice . If you like to change, try out the Infiniti M45 or the Lexus GS as Sukdeep suggested.

Your other options are the Lexus IS or the Infiniti G35 if you like em a little smaller. The new Nissan Maxima has a completely different ride and is worth a shot to. It all comes down to your budget.

You looking at hte Lexus ls430 or 460 , im assuming you are going for used ? They no longer have the 430 here am I correct ? just the 460 ?

Lexus is always great though ..

I have the LS 460h...I dont know if its different in Canada (as I bought mine in the US) but its a well laidout and also have not had any issues with this car whatsoever.

I did have a Mercedes before which was filled with problems from the start, then upgraded to the es350 before just upgrading to this ride. Its been a little over a year and I would highly recommend this to others.

If you are looking for a sporty Euro car like the BMW, then this is not going to make you happy, I saw everyone with a BMW (esp in my age bracket) so just tried to get something different.

If you buy a Mercedes, most likley its to impress the people outside the car. If you buy a Lexus, its to impress the guy behind the drivers seat. A Lexus is like a very fine Cognac.

I would agree, but lately I see the "B" class Mercedes and the BMW 1-series and really have lost my desire for those two cars. Before they used to have a "status" associated with them, now both are all over the place.

Lexus is definitely a beauty to drive (minus the IS which is a small ass car) and it really does impress the skeptics once inside.

I guess it depends upon whether you buy cars to impress others, or to please yourself. I guarantee you, if you like driving, put your butt in a 135i and you will get it.

The B-class...I have nothing good to say, so I won't say anything.

by the way, it's PORSCHE
wow spelling nazi. Dont take Internet so seriously.

Only BMW i'd recommend is the M series, go big or go home.

1/3/5 series ... lets not even go there.

Lexus does not make an LS 460h (h=hybrid) for the US, Canada or elsewhere. The LS models are:
LS 600h L (hybrid)
LS 460 L AWD
LS 460 L
LS 460 AWD
LS 460

The OP is looking for a luxury sedan and you are suggesting a M series BMW?

Maybe you missed something, or dont know very much about what your speaking of.

oops..ignore the h...i dont know if I must have been deleting a sentence and failed...I don't have a hybrid...no use since I drive hwy kms more than 80% of the time...I opted for not upping to the L since I did not need some of the extras. However, the packages did up the price significantly (camera, nav, heated steering wheel). Its the automatic door closer which is a tad over the top.

Uzo does the LS460 you have come with suede headliner? I know the 430 I had was the UL package and I loved the suede headliner, the chill box in the backseat was a little over the top, but made me feel like I was driving a true flagship luxury vehicle!

Suede headliner?!?!

Must have been a bitch getting shot spots out of the ceiling.....
LOL!

Yup suede headliner!!! You never seen it? Alot of people who do aftermarket custom interiors do it, but not alot of cars come with it OEM. I believe the Benz s550 also comes with suede headliner. I had the 430UL (Ultra Luxury) package though, I dont believe the standard version came with suede.

I never got the rear seat upgrade. I was not willing to upgrade the back into a taxi/chauffeur for the comfort of passengers. And the liner I have is definitely not suede, i dont have my owners manual but its something else..

I know what the discussion is about.

if OP is considering LS460 , it falls under 80K+ price range, and BMW M3 Sedan costs about 75K+ and of course its an M.

I'm just making a reasonable suggestion.
