That was intense. This ain't the Dubas/Keefe Leafs. Florida knows at this stage now that they can't intimidate this version of the Leafs. Even Marner is playing with no fear. Woll made a spectacular game saving save. Unbelievable stretch. Benoit is fortunate to have Tanev as a mentor and a skills coach.
Nylander is 12 wins and 4 losses on the faceoff in these playoffs.

Woll actually outplayed Bob.

The Panthers were not their usual dirty/nasty selves. The next game in Florida will bring out their worst nastiness.

The pp sec unit scored a big goal and Domi and Pacioretty have added another dimension of offensive threat. Matthews is struggling offensively but not defensively and maybe it’s a good sign that the Leafs can win without him being the leading scorer.

The referring so far in this series has been bad and inconsistent. Bad and missed calls on both sides. Leafs should have been short handed after the Laughton hit on the back and Holmberg was fouled a couple of times before he was penalized.

One thing I noticed is Tkachuk isn't laying any hits. He has the lowest hit total of all Florida forwards.
He's definitely playing hurt.

Bennett has the most hits for Florida 30 in 7 games 6 pts. -1
Max P has the most hits for Toronto 34 in 6 games also 6 pts. +3
Florida has 5 players with over 20 hits. Toronto has 5 players with over 20 hits.

Florida's best line is Marchand's. All 3 on the line top the team in pts and have an astounding +6 to +9.
Seth Jones is Florida's most utilized D. He's their number 1. Plays both PP and PK. Forsling is 2.

Leafs won both games by 1 goal. That's how they operate. When Florida scored to tie it Leafs came right back. That Domi goal was spectacular. Domi starts it from behind the net 5 quick passes later and he scores.

Time to lay the body on Tkatchuk. They've been doing it to Barkov.

i think florida starts to play the heavy game a little more at home. nylander, marner, etc lay it on them a little more, leafs have played well so far, but i think florida gets even at home. and that call on Rodriguez for embellishment:oops:, doesnt matter if its a panther, or a leaf, anybody could see that could easily have been five and a game. that ref should be pulled from the playoffs.

I agree that the “embellishment call” was unfair and the Panthers should have had a pp, but I thought the double minor on the hit was reasonable. Had they assessed a major, it would have been reviewed automatically and based on previous precedents it would in all likelihood be reduced to a double minor

I’m a Leaf fan but unlike some resident posters here I can apply critical thinking rather than blindly defend the Leafs because of “homerism”. That’s why I’ve stepped on my fellow Leaf fans’ toes on many occasions. As I said before the referring in this series so far has been inconsistent to say the least, but the bad calls have gone both ways.

Marchand executed his sneaky slew foot on Tavares but the ref caught it.

It’s premature to think that we’ve seen the best in the Panthers. Boston had a 3 game to 1 lead in 2023 and the Panthers went on to win the next three to win the series. They’ll get the calls playing at home and they’ll take full advantage of it. One troubling thing is the Leafs’ pp top unit. They’re 0 for too many chances I believe. If they don’t get it going in Florida , they may be coming back to TO all even.

Florida was a huge favourite. Not just to beat the Leafs but second only to Dallas to win the cup. Leafs won both home games by 1 goal. The expectation is not for this to be easy. Florida hasn't played a home game yet this series. The expectation is for Florida to hold serve. Anything else is a bonus.

That's really what happened in round 1 vs Ottawa. Leafs won their 1st 2 home games. They got a bonus by winning game 3 in Ottawa in OT. Otherwise there would have been a game 7.

One big reason why Florida was favourite was goaltending. Bob is a playoff battle tested and cup winner while both Stolarz and Woll have a thin playoff resume. The Leafs seem to have found a weakness in beating him high on the vast majority of their goals. Will see if that trend can continue.

That's called scouting. Leafs shooting high is intentional. Florida it's not just about Bobrovsky. It's more the team in front of him. Bobrovsky won the cup last year with a playoffs .906 save percentage. That is decent to good. That is not spectacular. On Marner's game winning goal the reason it went in was because Bobrovsky was anticipating a low shot for Knies to tip in. He bent his left pad down. So Knies net front created that goal.
Stolarz had better stats than Bobrovsky last season on the same team and Stolarz has better stats than Bobrovsky this season. I'd say there are better goalies than Bobrovsky around the league.
Bobrovsky had a .901 save percentage in the series vs TB. Florida pumped in goals on Vasilevski.
That's why they won.

Tavares had the puck in the corner turns it over. Lost opportunity.
Winning OT games wins series. See Ottawa game 3.

Woll looks shaky. Unlike last 2 playoff seasons where he looked rock solid. He has a 3.99 GAA and .857 save percentage. They're going to need Stolarz back at some point. Leafs built their team and style of play to be more defensive. Ironically they've been able to pump in more goals on Bobrovsky than they did last playoffs where they scored exactly 2 goals each game they played. They've scored at least 4 goals each game against Florida.

i agree the officiating has been really EFFIN embarrasing, go back to one ref.
