I’m expecting Treliving to make significant deadline moves to enhance the Leafs playoff chances. This playoff could very well be the turning point of the franchise. Just imagine the backlash should the Leafs go out in the first round. Heads will roll for sure.

Leafs get their 3rd line center with salary retention and term without giving up Cowen, Minton, or Danford.
He wasn't a captain but was an Alternate Captain. Excellent trade. At a minimum they needed a 3rd line center. Domi isn't it. He has speed and kills penalties. With 121 hits, only 2 forwards on Leafs have more.

Schenn would probably have cost at least 2 of their top 3 prospects if not more. He's also 3 years older already in decline and has years left taking him into his late 30's. Also more than double the cap hit.

Treliving could still be looking for a Defensemen. Reaves wasn't playing now and Leafs were not going to play him in the playoffs.

Marchand Bennett Tkatchuk will probably be Florida's 2nd line in the playoffs.

Where's the trade poster honouring Reese Johnson.
Interesting the 2026 1st round pick is only top 5 protected whereas the 2027 is top 10.
With Boston out of the playoffs this year Leafs will hold 1st place on their own for active consecutive playoff appearances. Matthews will be playing his 9th. The record is 20 for a player.

Backlash?? the last 7-8 rounds , they havent gotten out of first round. they need to get to a Conference final, or cup final to have any hope of redemption. IMHO.

I truly believed this 4 years ago, and every year after. Not anymore.
I'm still a Leaf fan, but I've lost faith in the organization.
Dubas and Shanahan are responsible and only one of them is gone, Shanahan is just as culpable.
They doubled down on the same team every single year, and to boot Shanahan was going to extend his contract after all that playoff humiliation.
Thank God for the falling out, that's the only reason they started making changes.
Every era it's something goofy.
I hate to say it but I understand why other fans made fun of Leaf fans for being delusional.
I count myself as one of the suckers.

IMHO, if the Leafs have a poor playoff showing this year, both Marner and Tavares are gone for sure!! Probably Shanahan will be gone as well. I think the Leafs have to at least get to the 3rd round of the playoffs, in order for the season to be a success.

Good news is that Tavares' 7yr contract finally expires at the end of this season. So the Leafs can use Tavares' approx $11 million/yr salary against the cap, to get in some more players. Also, the Leafs just might have to let Marner walk, if Marner's contract demands are too greedy. if Marner tanks this season in the playoffs, like he usually does, then it will be easier on the Leaf fans when Treliving decides not to sign Marner to a huge contract extension etc
I still like Marner, believe it or not he is the most productive player point wise than any of the other top guys. I think he gets flack because he doesn't produce at reg season level.
He also brings a lot of other things to the table that don't show up on the score sheet.
Having said that, I agree that if he wants to hold a gun to management's head at contract time, he can go.
I've had enough of players draining every nickel they can at the expense of building a balanced team, especially when they got paid top dollar at RFA
and they've been treated like royalty by management.

He's the top free agent on the market this off season with a rising cap over the next 2 years. There will be a bidding war for him so let them overpay. I say he ends up a Bruin.

I don't know if he's a Bruin type of player, unless they're planning to move in a different direction from
the lunch pail style of hockey they've played forever.
Yea, if he tries to drag the Leafs into a long grind negotiation they can all go fuck off.
And then listen to how this is the only place they want to play and that they left money on the table to stay here.
I haven't got the stomach for this shit anymore.

He's isn't the Beantown tough guy but neither is Pasta. The one thing the Bruins desperately need is a center to pair with him. They thought Lindholm would be that but he isn't. A play maker like Marner with speed and a natural scorer like Pasternak with speed would be lethal. Zacha would move to the wing. I don't think Treliving would allow it to drag out. He saw what Colorado was able to do with the extra cap space by moving Rantenan.
