It may have been mentioned somewhere in here already but Ron Wilson really was the problem all along. The most fantastic aspect of their season is the PK. It is ranked 3rd. This is a huge turnaround considering under Wilson they were consistently BOTTOM 3 in the league in this category and couldn't see out a game to save their life.

The ironic part was Burke/Wilson always banged on about creating a tough identity they were never that during his regime. First 'full' season for Carlyle and they lead the league in fighting majors and hit a hell of a lot more. Give Carlyle credit he has been a huge influence, and let's not forget Burke, he essentially built this team.

Perhaps if he wasn't so friendly with Wilson the turnaround could have happened a lot sooner. I for one am ecstatic that they're going to end the playoff drought - even if they get tonked by the Bruins in the 1st round.
Ron Wilson or goalie coach ?

Always take a " W " but to be outshoot at one time during a game 30-9 tells a story that doesn't reflect in the standings ... Although when a team has confidence in the guy in the net they are able to play more lose ....

BOTH! Goaltending better now and the system that Randy has in place is working.

This is still Brian's team, and I hope he gets recognized for their success.

The level of goaltending that can get a team a win when a team is out shot 30-9 ( at one point ) makes the GM , Coach and everyone look good ..

Caught the after the game interview with Reimer. If his smile was any bigger, he would have dislocated his jaw. Nothing like a little success to bring relief to you psyche.

On the contrary, that is James Reimer's regular countenance when not in the middle of action.

I remember some of his interviews last year and he certainly wasn't smiling much then. A team can ride a 17-5-5 record a long way way. A cup, doubt it a lot, but a second round appearance is quite possible. The Leafs PK is absolutely unconscious in recant games.

Leafs are not that far behind Boston and Montreal to have lost hope of home advantage surely?

Possible but not likely and needs lots of help from others. I still prefer a Leaf- Hab matchup but will find it hard to watch and cheer for either tem.

Leafs in DC tonight to take on the Capitols.

This is why I would have started Scrivens last night ... or maybe Carlyle gives Scrivens this game and keeps the good pyshe going with Reimer.
If Scrivens wins, great, if not he comes back with Reimer vs NYI on Thursday.
Regardless I think Scrivens has to start one of these games, Caps tonight or NYI on Thursday.

Kessel is hot, six goals in the past four games.
Kadri has cooled a bit in the scoring dept, but is doing other things well.
Got to get Frattin back to the form he had before he was injuried.
I think we see Lupul tonight.
I like Gardiner, but he makes rookie mistakes. Do not want to hold him back, but at the same time I do not want to get burned where it costs the Leafs a higher standing.

I have heard it asked if the Leafs should give Rielly a taste before the playoffs start. I say no, but I will throw the question out there.

Should Morgan Rielly be given a few games before the end of the regular season ?

Go Leafs !

Agree. Every time they throw Reimer out there there is the risk of injury (concussion, stretched leg, etc.). We heed him healthy for the playoffs, especially if we get outshot 32-13.

Pointed out during the game, that in every back to back second game the Leafs play this year is against a rested team.; hmmmm.

5-1 loss to Washington.
Well you knew one of these games was coming. Hopefully it is out of their system.
Best thing, come ready to play on Thursday.

+1.

Sometimes a bad game serves the team better than an lucky win (Monday game), keep them honest and down-to-earth. Toronto has to compete every game to have a chance, the Buds are not loaded with talents like others. The shot on goal total was not bad, 35-30 against, but they do not have the same level of energy or desperation like other games, ALWAYS one step behind reaching for the puck...

The Leafs can put it on cruise control from here on out and hope when playoffs comes Reimer steps up big and the Leafs have another level of play .. Teams like Caps have had to play playoff level of intensity hockey for awhile cause of the hole they dug themselves in .
