I was wondering if anyone has had the surgery done before? I’m thinking about it but I’m not sure, what are the pros and cons if you have had the procedure done
Thank you
There is a lot of misinformation in this thread.
1. If you at content with glasses or CLs then your decision is easy. There are many other reasons patients have corrective eye surgery… job requirements, hobbies, recreation, intolerance to CLs or problematic Rx for glasses.
2. If you are contemplating LASIK(or PRK), have a thorough examination of your ocular health, including corneal thickness, susceptibility to post surgical dry eye, liklihood of “full” correction, and discuss realistic expectations. If you’re over 50, the chances of you completely eliminating glasses is low. That being said, many patients are thrilled with the results.. Others are not… The difference is in the education and guidance you receive from your vision care team
( optometrists and ophthalmologists). Unfortunately, a lot of clinics will schedule the procedure whether or not you are an ideal candidate. The good ones..(Bochner, Herzig, etc.) do a very careful evaluation and are excellent at determining, prior to the surgery, whether they are likely to have a satisfied patient or not. Therein lies the difference. Forget about saving $$ going to LASIK MD etc.. Do it right or don’t do it
True complications with LASIK are rare but dissatisfied patients are not rare… primarily because they have not been educated properly as to what to expect or whether indeed they should have it done at all.
Has anyone got it for minor prescriptions? I have some myopia and astigmatism but my prescription is minor. My eyes have been giving me a lot of headaches lately so considering surgery as well. Most doctors have been surprised when I mention I am interested in it since my prescription is so low.
Its unlikely that corrective surgery will address your headaches. You may not even be a candidate if your RX is mild( although there are lots of cowboys out there who’d be happy to take your hard earned money).Headaches are typically multifactorial and even though it sounds like you feel the discomfort in the ocular area, there are many other sources for pain in that location. If it is ocular related, there is nothing that LASIK can do for your headaches that glasses can’t, unless of course you’ve been given an inappropriate Rx for what the glasses are required for, or the frame selection or adjustment is poor.
