Gambling is a crime much worse than cheating. You are now bringing a criminal element into the game. The biggest scandal in the history of baseball is the Black Sox. Gamblers got involved and we know what happened. MLB will do whatever it has to to avoid anything like that again. Rose bet on his own team, but what if he was in over his head and some gamblers threatened him unless he threw some games. It can be a slippery slope. That is why he will never get in.

Question, if they took away the Astros WS, would you agree that Rose should stay out?
Gambling is a crime? Does Gary Bettman and the NHL know this? The NHL is embracing sports betting. Perhap you should call him and warn him about the criminal elements.

Anyways, simply throwing together a bunch of hypothetical what-ifs is not the way to build an argument.

We are talking about baseball and its' rules regarding gambling, not hockey. Rose was in clear violation (which he denied and lied about until cornered like a rat, because he knew the repercussions) of rules that were set up to avoid another Black Sox scandal which happened because of the involvement of gamblers.

BTW, gambling is legal in Vegas but Pete Rose never played or managed in Nevada.

In 2022 A Rod becomes HOF eligible. Will he be in the same PED boat as Bonds and Clemens?
They would have been great without PED's, Bonds and Clemens deserve to be in, A Roid not sure.

I'm happy for Larry Walker, the second Canadian since Ferguson Jenkins. Much deserved.

Glad Walker .... is a borderline Hall of Famer.
I've checked, not one member of the Hall of Fame's plaque denotes "borderline", "adequate", 'exceptional", 'unanimous" Hall of Famer.

They are, quite simply, Hall of Famers.
There isn't a specific/separate section for guys who got *100%, above 95%, above 85%, or below 80%.

Not even Mariano Rivera's plaque indicates "First 100% Hall of Famer".

Joe DiMaggio was a pretty good player, are we all in agreement?
Yet, it took 3 years, 3 ballots, for him to be elected to the Hall of Fame.

Borderline, indeed.

Clemens was in decline and Boston let him walk. The drugs reignited and extended his career. How many Cy's did he win once he started juicing?

Actually, Walker is the 1st Canadian since Fergie...

Walker and Jenkins the only 2 Canadian players in the Hall.

Off the top of my head, I can't think of any others, even on (or is it "in"?) the distant horizon.
On, I believe.

Joey Votto, possibly?

Way, way down the road, should he continue as he's started his career, Mike Soroka?

Vlady Guerrero Jr was born in Montreal, he's entitled to a Canadian Passport if he wants one.

If he gets his weight under control there's no telling what he can achieve.

Bonds stats sky rocket once he get to San Fran and he starts working with Victor Conte and Balco Labs. And we all know what was happening there.

He had three tremendous years with the Pirates previous to coming over. So its hard to project how he would have done the rest of his career had he been a non assisted player.

By making the selfish decision he did he took away that knowledge. We just have no way of knowing. So based on what do know about him I would not vote for him.

He and the rest of the PED crowd are cheats and should even be mentioned in the same conversation as the greats who played this beautiful game that we love.

Hmm.......Seems like he has Ruthian numbers at Coors, lol
Don't know about Babe Ruth but the young Willie Mays spent some time at the old Polo Grounds.

"Polo Grounds inherited a new tenant in 1913 when the New York Yankees moved into the ballpark with the Giants. Although the distances were short down both lines to the foul poles, 279 in left field and 257 feet in right field, the distance to centerfield was 455 feet making it one of the longest in MLB history."

Ok. back to Coors.

The career production numbers - 383 HR (68th overall), 1311 RBI (105th overall), 1365 R (108th overall) don't particularly stand out. And I think that's what was holding him back for so many years. He also missed a significant amount of games to injury over his career - he only had 140 or more games played in a season 4 times over his 16 year career.

What he does have going for him is the following

career .400 OBP
career .313 BA
230 SB
7 gold gloves
3 batting titles
1 MVP
72.7 WAR

What really stands out to me is the three years between 1997-1999 when he hit .366, .363 and .379. That's sick. Congrats to him.
