It's funny how this works. My harddisk on my 5 year old desktop crashed Wednesday. The thread is revived yesterday and today I am forced to order a new notebook.

My choices are:
Dell Latitude D510, Pentium M 750 (1.86GHz) 15.0 XGA,1Gig 80GB $1720

Toshiba PTS20C-GL301E $2,099.00 S2: 1.86GHz/80GB 512Mb

Acer Ferrari 4002WLMi AMD Turion 64 ML-30 $1773.99

Features by features Dell has the best price incl. 3 year warranty.
What do you think?

have you taken a look at the dual core notebooks that just came out....those would probably be better to get...and they are around the same price....acer aspire 5620 is $1700 CDN
Thanks for the info. The dual core on Acer shows 1.6 Ghz speed. Is that better than a 1.8 Ghz single?

I mostly use it for Office stuff, AutoCAD 2D (some 3D), CorelDraw

Dual core sounds like a good idea but has little benefit in real world UNTIL software developers rewrite their applications to take advantage of hyperthreading or multi-processing. The main benefit with dual core today is lower battery life ... As you are only running 1/2 the processor.

Forget about vista unless you get a great dx9 graphics chip. Check Microsoft webpage for vista notebook requirements.

dude what do you want to use it for? just surfing the net? games? editing photographs? if all your going to do is surf the net then it's more than enough
A troll who says he works at Microsoft and drives a Mercedes (daddy's maybe) told a SP that she got a great deal, it was worth 1700. She paid 1100 including tax with a mouse and a router at some piss ass computer shop he took her to. The shop owner didn't give her the bill. You'd think he'd give her a break since she's helping him evade his taxes.

My vote ...Toshiba Qosmio laptop/desktop

Its built like a M.B. S500. Does everything including built in tv tuner. Now I can watch tv and surf terb. at work, no one will know. Cost the same as seeing my favorite sps for a weekend- expensive. I took one weekend off.

Thanx for the info asn.

I think I wil order this one for $1749:
http://www.digitalspyders.com/canada/acer-aspire-as5672wlmi120gbxpp-notebook-p-18883.html

Apparently, this chip runs 20% faster than centrino 2 GHz.

Unfortunately, I have to wait another week to get it because it is so new.

The Acer Aspire is a solid choice. Seen it the other day, and it looks pretty nice. One of the best valued dual core notebooks.... CanadaSys has it for $100 less than your link.
