It's LaVilla's loss, unfortunately. And neighbour gets the upper hand.
I told them they should buy that house next door when it came up for sale a few years ago. Knowing how busy they always seem to be, they could have had two or three more ladies in that house. Eventually they could buy up the whole street!
I had jokingly said the same thing. But buying another house on that dead-end street probably isn't a good long-term investment.
I think it would be cheaper in the long run to try to add another floor on top to try to add two more rooms there, but I don't know if that would be allowed.
I hope the owners of LaVilla give up playing nice with the neighbour and fight fire with fire.
I bet of that camera was covered in paint a few times these assholes would get the message.
No, those assholes would then have a reason to call the cops for the vandalism, and show them the video.
Escalating this will not end well for anyone.
I might guess a few reasons:
- Aside from the few neighbours, that side street is relatively discreet
- The house was probably pretty cheap. Not very many people would choose to raise their family on that tiny street.
- I may be wrong about this, but I think I heard that it's zoned similar to places in the downtown core.
I actually think it's a good location.
I hear that all the other neighbours are great and supportive of LaVilla.
They have every right to video anything they can see from the public space or their property.
Could they post it to social media? Sure. Might it be considered some form of criminal or civil harassment? Maybe.
Lavilla has their own cameras too..
There's cameras EVERYWHERE in the world today...you can't even pee at the side of a highway if you're caught short without being caught on camera!!
I once ran into a buddy coming out of the spa while I was going in. He knows my wife too. We just nodded and never said nuthin. We once chatted about a couple of the ladies casually....he'd met them coincidentally outside of work/the spa (at separate times) when his wife was with him and he just said, "that's the wife of a guy I used to know". I got the idea he was feeling me out to see if I'd rat him out...but not in so many words...I figured we both had a gentlemen's agreement when we'd nodded. Our wives weren't around but we didn't get into details.

If you can't explain it away to your wife/partner then keep little dick at home!

I have tried parking nearby and walk in but because it's dead end - it feel more exposed to a neighbour saying something. Driving in is better I think. Guys above are right - if someone was gonna post a vid of you walking into a spa, then thats a risk anywhere at all.
This is what the neighbours want. You guys to feel like this so you don’t go and hopefully the lack of business with then shut them down.
LV needs to go to court to get the cameras pointed elsewhere.
These people can use the video for whatever they want so long as they are willing to accept the consequences and I can’t see those consequences being very much so to some it might be worth it in a war with a spa.
I agree the women should have thought about that before she moved in unless she used that as a factor to get the price down thinking she would get them shut down or drive business out anyway

I personally think that LaVilla should start playing hardball and start wasting the neighbour's time and money by taking her to court.
And if that doesn't get anywhere, then they should take other measures.
They shouldn't go down without a fight. The neighbour's actions are obviously interfering with their business.

Privacy rights don't give you the power to stop someone from video taping from their private property anything that is in plain view.
You can go on Google and view satellite photo of every inch of of every yard in North America. Google maps has photos of the cars on my driveway, the pool in my backyard and the portion of my fence that was blown down by the last wind storm, and it's all published on line for everyone to see.
Can someone video tape your driveway and put it on the Internet? Hate to break it to you, but someone in Silicon Valley already does, and it's perfectly legal.
IANAL, but I think it has to be "plain view" to the public, not just from your private property. I can't video tape my neighbour's teenage daughter sunbathing topless in her backyard, just because I can see over their 10' tall privacy fence from my third floor window.
