Hey guys. Long time reader, first time poster. An email came to me yesterday with information that I thought I should share.

Ok, so anyone who has heard of the Libertarian party probably knows they have a very open mind towards issues that may affect members on this board. Particularly, they feel that if you ain't hurting anyone, then you ain't doing anything wrong and the government shouldn't be getting involved.

I'll keep this short. If you want to know more about the party then just google "Libertarian party of Canada". Probably one of the few parties that will make a stand and say that certain products and services should obviously be legal.

As I said, the Kitchener-Waterloo riding is hopefully getting a Libertarian candidate for this election. He's out there, but he needs 100 signatures from people living and voting in the Kitchener-Waterloo riding. As I understand it, this signatures show that you consent to him running as a candidate, not that you intend to vote for him.

So, because privacy is a concern here, I will just point you towards the craiglist ad and if you want to help, you can go from there. This is a request for signatures only, not donations or any other crap. http://kitchener.en.craigslist.ca/pol/839297535.html

I hope this doesn't count as spam and get my ass banned!

here is just a little about their party-
Health Care
The only effective way to stop the deterioration of health care services we are experiencing is to have all medical and health plans open to competition on the free market.

hmmm that sounds like someone that actually WANTS to get rid of universal health care in ON....lol... not a great idea if you want to get votes bud..lol

You missed the thread earlier in the month about Sheep and Goats... They had to delete it since it was not rated...

Don't vote Libertarian

Libertarianism is a great political philosophy (fiscally conservative but socially liberal) which I adhere to almost religiously. But they have no chance of electing an MP. If you like what the Libertarian party has to say, you should be voting Conservative. Otherwise, you are wasting a vote.

It wouldn't be a waste of a vote if we had a half-way decent voting system. Proportional, or Mixed Proportional, doesn't really matter. Anything other than the First Past the Post system we have now. FPtP is the pretty much the worst of all voting systems.

Too bad the initiative failed in Ontario. They'll interpret that as a "mandate" for the awful FPtP system. We probably won't get another chance to change it for 50 years.

Meanwhile, rather than a complete waste of a vote, a vote for Libertarian (or any of the small-fry) is at least effective as a vote for a new voting system.

Weird... years of lurking, and I finally chip in a post that has absolutely nothing to do with getting my jimmy polished.

The good thing about "first past the post" is that it preserves the important notion that you're voting for the candidate, not for the party, and not for the party leader.

Actually codifying party rights into the voting system would be a big step backwards, IMO.

If you want to campaign for voting reform, campaign for secret voting in parliament. How can we claim to be a democracy when we allow party whips to force MPs to vote the "right" way?
