For one thing, he contracted out garbage collection away from the PSU and their blackmailing strikes.

But the anti-Ford camp only want to focus on his personal life/issues when criticizing him instead of his office record or what he tries to accomplish.
Ford has done a lot of good for the city like privatizing garbage collection and reducing taxes, but he's allowed his personal life to over shadow those accomplishments. He's allowed his personal issues to stain all his good work. What amazes me is that he didn't take the crack story as a wake up call to improve himself. He whines about the media going after him, yet he persists with his dumb behaviour and always plays the victim. He's quick to pound his chest about his leadership ability, yet has none. Leaders take responsibility for their actions (including their personal lives) and don't play the victim. That's the point that Ford Nation does not get. Ford's paid to deal with the shit that's thrown at him and be the better and stronger man, but he fails miserably at it.

He did that in the first few months after he was elected. Then he alienated council and his crack smoking became a distraction. Since then he hasn't been able to accomplish anything.

Blaming his crack smoking being news on the "anti Ford camp" is pathetic. It made the world news and became the focus of city government.

Ford has to take any personal responsibility, not blame his poor behavior on his political adversaries, most of whom weren't adversaries until he alienated them.

Council voted 44 to 2 to strip his powers, it wasn't a "camp", it was everyone.
It always make me laugh when Ford complains that politicians are playing politics with him. He signed up for the job, so he should suck it up and focus on his job.

I get around.

What I compare being mayor of Toronto to is swimming with the sharks, and sooner or later you’re going to get bitten by the media. And no wonder, politics are made for people who can work with others and be discrete and don’t have videos of them smoking crack and acting like drunken buffoons in public. And my heart bleeds for him when he gets killed in the press, but it’s his own fault at the end of the day.

Paid to take the shit that's thrown on him?

The media has intruded on his personal life like it's the most important news event of the year. True, he's made an ass of himself in public, but he's still a victim of excessive media attention and harassment.

If there's video evidence of his crack smoking (I haven't seen it yet), it's a single event, but that doesn't make him a crack addict except to those who dislike and personally attack him.

That being said, I think it's safe to say that he's got a drinking problem.

Yes, he is paid (and paid well) to take the shit that's thrown at him. After all, he signed up for the job. He's also paid to think about how his actions impact others and the city despite any personal attacks, media scrutiny, etc. I'm not saying the media attention and harassment are right, but a leader needs to be able to rise above and work with other people including councillors, the police chief and judges.

It's ironic that he teaches kids to play in a team, but can't do it himself.
