Now, his current economic policy would put tariffs on nearly everything that is imported into the US. Who is that going to hurt? The average American. The US tried this back in 1930....and it basically led to the Great Depression. Because when you place tariffs on stuff, other countries tend to match them in retaliation. The consumer does not win....And, economists say it will cost the US economy trillions! And it wouldn't fix his budget problems....
The fret over tariffs in the U.S. is so overdone. If you look at economic history the U.S. was the world's big exporter by far, of course tariffs in that period hurt the U.S. The U.S. is now the biggest importer by far and it's causing dangerous economic imbalances. Giving our leaders flexibility to negotiate with trade partners like Germany, South Korea, China and others is not a bad thing. It's merely matching mercantilism with mercantilist countries.

I'm sorry but I think you need to read more on the Great Depression particularly the Fed's monetary policy during the crisis. Economics today don't believe that tariffs led to the Great Depression.

Per the National Bureau of Economic Research: By almost any measure, the monetary policy of 1930-33 was a disaster: the money supply and price level both fell by one-third, ex post real interest rates rose well into double digits, and banks failed by the thousands. How could the Fed have let this happen?

I think you are cherry picking political talking points that you like. I'm not at all convinced you care much about tariffs beyond the election. Perhaps as they pertain to Canada, but Canada is covered under the USMCA trade agreement. By the way, for several years some economists and observers have advocated strengthening regional trade pacts as opposed to expanded global trade.

You're right, most economists do not think it led to the Great Depression. It just made it significantly worse.
.

And the reality is that it will increase the cost of virtually all goods in the US....a new national sales tax that will be passed on to the consumer. If you thought COVID inflation was bad....just wait for this. But the thing that is interesting is that Trump says he would put tariffs on stuff coming from Mexico...which (checks notes) is part of the USMCA trade agreement....So, is he lying? And if he's not, is he just confused? Remember, he said basically tariffs across the board. How is that going to help the lower and middle class?

I've been reading the Leftist government in Mexico has been trying to back-off aspects of the agreement. This seems to be a periodic game that is played.

I've always been skeptical of free trade*. I certainly support any Administration in its efforts to represent the U.S. trade interests. I support Biden's tariffs against China even when many criticized Trump for enacting them.

*Free trade is the operative phrase. Many economists like free trade in principle and many don't believe it can be achieved it globally. I know you can find and post articles with your POV. However, you need to realize many progressive economists have generally supported tariffs in order to protect union industries.

Some people will rally against any Trump proposal just as some will rally against any Harris proposal. You are looking for black and white or should we say red and blue in every issue.

See?
That's a much better line to use.
That just comes off as try-hard edge-lord dismissing everyone as being paid to lie.
Much better than your Maddow shot, just confirming you got tricked like a rube and can't think critically on your own.

Stick with this.
The people who got tricked were the majority of the left who wore masks and took the jabs thinking it would protect them from getting infected.

Every time I think I've seen it all with some of the rightie's posts, someone else jumps in with even more ridiculous but funny nonsense and bullshit. LOL
Fact…masks don’t protect you from covid.
Fact….experimental injections did not prevent transmission or contraction despite the big pharma and media propaganda that said they would.
Why are you still choosing to remain ignorant and deny the truth that’s been exposed over and over again?
