Interesting article on the latest Leafs/Kadri debacle:

http://sports.nationalpost.com/2012...marlies-to-label-nazem-kadri-as-fat-and-slow/

For 90% of the population it will be hard to believe that a guy who has a legitimate shot to make more money than most people ever will, playing a game a lot of people would love to play for free, couldn't find the motivation within himself to show up to camp in the best shape of his life - especially when he knows he his club has had pretty serious doubts about him since he was drafted.

For anyone who has heard of Gary Roberts workout/diet regime it must also be pretty hard to believe that anyone who actually worked with him and followed his regime could show up at camp with more body fat than most of the team. I have not read or heard that anyone in the media has actually gotten a comment from Roberts on how committed Kadri actually was to the program - it would be interesting to know his perspective. His other clients (Skinner, Stamkos, Eberle) seem to have fared fine.

So is Kadri really a headcase who can't see the writing on the wall and doesn't realize that his next shot may very well be his last (at least with the Leafs)? Or are the Leafs just completely dysfunctional and this is just another case of them eating their young?

Or is it both?

both....obviously Kadri was but yet again a bad choice which points to the Leafs dysfunction as an organization and then the fact that they are not shepparding him through training during the summer is another sign of a poorly managed organization. Maybe the Leafs need a few more Vice Presidents in their ivory tower..maybe but just maybe 6 Assistant GM's ins't enough. sigh.

I am not a Leafs fan but I think the way the big club has handled him over the past couple of years, is now bearing its fruit. Whenever this kid is up in the bigs, he is given a couple of games here and a couple of games there but never given the chance to play enough games to get comfortable at that level. If he has one bad game, they shit on him and he is sent back to the minors. There are plenty of Leafs that should be in the minors but they are kept with the big club much longer than they should. But not with Kadri. I don't know what it is.

I think he needs a new environment but I don't see the Leafs getting much more than a bag of pucks for him and knowing Burke that would be unsatisfactory so he will remain within the Leafs organization and amount to nothing as most of their draft picks.

Call me a cynic, but MLSE is as much about selling sweaters and branded merchandise as it is with fielding a hockey team. I always believed that Kadi's selection was as much about selling the MLSE brand to various new canadian communities as it was about developing a first line player. Given how poorly they've handled first round draft choices, it makes sense to hire somebody who can sell sweaters first and maybe play later. MLSE plays every one for chumps, players and fans alike.

So be like me, avoid the Air Canada centre as much as possible, do not buy any MLSE branded merchandise and don't watch the mediocre products they dish out on TV.

How much you wanna bet that Kadri's leafs sweater is one of the better selling ones in the stores? Even though he's really never broken out of the minors

ok...so he threw a grenade and maybe killed a marine, but he has been brought back to serve his time with the Leafs now and in a few years he will be a free agent! Praise Allah.

The EI culture can sometimes believe they are superior...not needing to stoop to the levels of the common man to compete. Perhaps he a little pompous!

Secondly....that butter chicken is so so good...but fattening.

The outcome for him was obvious!

I think he was an average player with unknown potential who was not really given a consistant chance to demonstrate his value.

That said there's no excuse for showing up to camp out of shape. Unless he has a recent injury that is not made public.

Whether or not you like or even agree with Brian Burke, and even if you do not think he is a good hockey guy he is bullheaded and I seriously doubt he could be 'ordered' to take a player just to try to get more sweater sales from a certain ethnic community.

Also here is the number one reason statements like these are stupid.

Winning the Cup would generate sale of all Leaf merchandise to all markets in every ethnic community.
Leafs sweaters, t-shirts, caps, etc would go through the roof. TV rating would skyrocket and they could raise ticket prices and no one would complain.
We would just fork over the money.:thumb:

Exactly.

Not only what you've mentioned but there's also the increased revenue they could command the (free) networks, and higher ad prices for advetrising on Leafs TV, cost of purchasing LeafsTV, increased fees for ads on the boards and in the ACC. As well the increased ticket prices is not just a one year thing. Those higher prices go on indefinitely. They could then exponentially parlay those revenues with more condos, restaurants etc. or whatever else they decide to invest in.

People who say they have no motivation to succeed have absolutely no idea what they're talking about.

All licenced NHL appearal sales are shared equally among the teams. The Leafs don't need to market themselves to any particular group. They made 81 million last year.

Kadri was rated a high first rounder. He may have benefited by playing with some talanted London Knight teammates. The Senators were going to take him with the 9th pick so he was on the radar for a few teams.
