I have no hopes for this season. I'm gonna watch every Raptors game, but they're going nowhere. 31 wins seems about right.

Thankfully, Lakers, Clippers, Heat, Thunder are gonna be real fun to watch this year.
How many seasons in recent past that the Raptor fans had high hopes but were dissapointed . I don't blame you for that approach . Lets hope they are the A's and Orioles of
basketball ..

McGuire Sees Raptors' System As Perfect Fit

Duane Casey believes Dominic McGuire will improve several of the Toronto Raptors' defensive holes.

“He’s a defender first of all,” Casey said. “He’s that tough, gritty, grimy defender who has experience and he’s an excellent passer. He can get the rebound and bust out and start the break. He’s a legit 6-foot-9 and he can guard multiple positions so that will be his speciality.

“He’s somebody we felt like we needed and we went after him and luckily we got him,” Casey said. “It was a long process. We weren’t sure we were going to get him. I think Brooklyn was interested in him. I know Golden State coaches — I talked to them and they wanted to get him back, but we’re glad we have him.

McGuire was able to get his career on track last season with the Warriors.

“He was a specialist for Golden State,” Casey said. “He knew who he was. He knew his role and that’s what he is going to be for us. He’s a tough guy but a great teammate. Guys love him. He’s a guy who puts his hard hat on every day and he’s our kind of guy. We need that in our mix.”

McGuire hopes to remain with the Raptors for the foreseeable future.

“I’m never worried about getting a job, but I would like some stability and hopefully I can find a home here with Coach Casey and his system because I feel it fits me perfectly,” McGuire said.

I've been thinking about why the Raptors have been so mediocre for so long and I think it's as simple as star players.

In the NBA, the star player sets the tone for the whole team probably more than any other sport.

If Bargnani is your star player, what kind of tone is he setting? He's kind of robotic, not much personality and that can't help but trickle down to the role players.

Hopefully Valancinuias is a star and has some positivity and fire that can infect the rest of the team.

It was the same thing with Bosh, when he was the star, his cool attitude and geekiness was probably what trickled down to the role players and the team didn't have a killer identity.

When Vince was the star player and before his whining and injuries, his athleticism and energy infected the rest of the team and it lifted the team to within a basket of the Eastern Conference Finals.

In the NBA you are your best player. The whole team takes on the personality of the best player even if they don't admit it.

Also, is anyone else really glad not to have to watch Jerryd Bayless anymore? Man, that guy was terrible, I cringed whenever he came into the game, so out of control.

I miss the VC days, the best player in Raptors history and the most exciting. With Bosh all we had were 7 mediocre years and 3 playoff wins, and by playoff wins I don't mean series' won, I mean 3 playoff games won, sad, I know.

He's actually doing pretty well in Dallas nowadays, he's embraced his role coming off the bench, and he's a solid contributer, whereas his cousin T-Mac is out of the league. I'm seeing a game against the Mavs this year and for once I won't be booing VC, he's near the end of his career and he brought the Raptors franchise to places they've never been before and likely places they won't be for a very long time.

When I think of Carter, I think of the guy that QUIT on the team, the fans and his team mates.

True Dawgger - you are bang on- I think the most exciting was with Damon Stoudamire(sp?)when they beat the Bulls with jordan and rodman (the worm) etc at Skydome - that was at least a team that tried to perform with the talent they had...carter was a selfish player not a team player

You're RIGHT...if this is one of the last visits to TORONTO, we should summons up as much VILE ENERGY as we can and let Vince know he is NEVER welcome in this City!!!

Yes VC was an immature ass, but he's more mature now. Just go on youtube and type in vince carter dunks and it will bring back so many good memories, this guy is probably the greatest dunker in NBA history. He singlehandedly put Toronto on the NBA map, and about 90% of his greatest dunks of all time were in a Raptors uniform. Damon was great, but he was only here for 2 and a half years and he never made the all-star game in his career. T-Mac was good and he had great potential, but look at him now, he's 33 and already out of the league. Bosh was never and will never be a leader, he didn't do anything for the Raptors, 3 playoff game wins in 7 years is not something to be proud of. At least with Vince we were one shot away from making the Eastern Conference Finals.

Imagine how good they'll be with Valenciunas and Lowry. The East is wide open, there's no reason why the Raptors can't grab the 8th seed. If you think about it, who's better than them in the East? Obviously the Heat, Pacers, Celtics, Knicks, Nets, Sixers, maybe the Bulls can grab the 7th seed without Rose, and the Raptors can definitely battle the other weak teams in the East for the 8th spot. I think they're better than the Pistons, Wizards, Bobcats, Bucks, Magic, Cavs, and could be better than the Hawks who lost Joe Johnson. Realistically they'll probably finish 10th or 11th, but there's no reason why they can't fight hard and slip into the playoffs being a few games under .500.

they look pretty good out there! lets hope they can play this good against nba teams.
Bargs looked really rusty . Free throw shooting was ugly but did love what Lucas brought to the table .

Question after seeing last night's game and reading this post earlier this week

National Post said:
andrea bargnani well rested and 15 pounds bulked up.
Is that a nice way of saying didn't train much and gained 15 pounds cause Andrea looked slow with no jump last night .

espn.com has all scores ( box scores )
Thanks..... better box score than I was getting, tons of info. Just wasn't impressed with what I saw. Raps Free throws percentage looked like something from a girl's school game, turn overs still an issue. They have to show a lot of improvement or it will be another long year.
