NHL lockout is official and so more eyes in T.O will be on the Raptors and NBA Season . Raptors training camp opens in 16 days in Halifax . 2 Things interested in seeing are Jonas in his first action and how Jose Calderon acts not being traded ? Last season I was cheering for losses ie Tank season and so this year I am cheering for ???

You are cheering for NO INJURIES, continued excellence defensively under Dwayne Casey, DeMar DeRozan being better than mediocre, Bargnani playing at the all-star pace he was playing at last year before injuries, Kyle Lowry being the best two-way point guard since Alvin Williams, Landry Fields...(Okay, I don't know what to expect from him, he seems kind of meh) Jonas Valancunius getting lots of playing time to learn the ropes quickly and the 8th playoff seed.

Lots to cheer for.

Jonas looks like a talented kid. I'm excited to see what he can bring to the table this season
Very few Big Men who aren't named Shaq or Dwight can come into the league and make an a quick impact . Although like you I am looking forward to seeing how close or far he is too being a impact player .

Or better.

I sure hope he, at least, shows like he as upside.

I am looking forward to the season. I was really impressed with Casey last year and expect things continue to improve under him. I hope the media and fans don't put too much pressure on Jonas. I expect him to play less than 20 minutes most nights as he learns his position and gets use to playing NBA style basketball. He is a diamond in the rough and it will take a season (maybe more) to polish the diamond. Lowry should be an improvement at PG and I don't think Calderon will disappoint coming off the bench.Bargnani has to put up some numbers and stay healthy. DeRozan, Davis, Johnson, are now veterans and have to start performing as such. If the Raps don't make the playoffs the season will be a disappointment.

Although I haven't been impressed with the talent on the team, the way they were playing under Casey was fun to watch. I have no high hopes for results but I'll likely see a bunch of games. Two years ago I was more likely to drive down to Buffalo or Syracuse to see a college game than take a 5 minute trip on the TTC to see the raps.

I have very little hope for the Raps this year. I don't think they'll even be able to compete at the level of the Indiana Pacers, never mind the Heat, Lakers, Thunder, Celtics, Spurs and the next 8 teams...

I'm not sure we can expect Jonas to contribute anymore than Amir Johnson...and I like Amir. We just need impact players. I'm going to cry if I hear James Johnson has a breakout season this year(probably won't happen).., but he had the ability and tenacity of a player that could make the leap)..I just don't see anyone on the team with such physical ability and mental drive. It's sad to see a project like JJ abandoned. It may well have been mental thing that the coaches saw. Who else are we going to count on this year to "growl" at times and make the extra effort on plays. I just don't see it in DeRozan. We seem to have a team of quality 6th men. I don't know???...Is Lowry the real deal??..or is he just the second coming of Mike James???

Hey, Lowry has to be better than Jerryd Bayless, doesn't he? Bayless made me cringe with all his poor decisions and out of control dribbling, and the way he carried himself like he was the best player on the floor. Good thing he's on Memphis now.

I won't claim to know much about him but he seems like a Alvin Williams type of player and this city fell in love with that Raptor .
I hope so, but Alvin Williams is 6'5" and Lowry is 6'0"?? I remember Alvin giving it his all covering Allen Iverson. I hope Lowry is a few Mach speeds quicker to make up for his size.

contract is not guaranteed. He has to make the club. The only thing he brings now is toughness, like an enforcer in hockey.

What is it ? Is the Toronto Sports scene Jinexed ?

Raptors' Valancuinas injures foot

With training camp still a week away, prized Raptors prospect Jonas Valanciunas has injured his left foot.

While the team said a full update likely wouldn't be coming until Monday, Valanciunas does not appear to be seriously injured, though he was photographed in a walking boot outside the ACC this weekend.

Valanciunas, like most basketball players, has had minor ankle issues in the past and walking boots are known to speed up recovery from minor sprains and strains.

He was not using crutches and was putting weight on the foot, both positive signs.

The 6-foot-11 centre has been playing nearly non-stop since being selected by the Raptors fifth overall in the 2011 draft.

He competed in the Lithuanian league last season, helped the national team qualify for the London Olympics and then was the youngest member of Lithuania's squad, seeing sporadic action due to some puzzling coaching decisions.

Valanciunas was to meet with the local media for the first time in nearly 15 months on Monday, but now likely won't do so until Oct. 1st, the team's official media day.

The Raptors start training camp in Halifax on Oct. 2nd.
