Both lost the election on unpopular campaign - the faith based school and green shift. Will John Tory step down as leader like Dion?
actually Dion at least lost because of a failed strategy....that green thing just wasn't going ot fly. Tory on the other hand lost because he opened his mouth and reacted to a sitaution wrongly and then wouldn't back down. Tell me which is the bigger idiot....the one that picked the wrong strategy or the one that slipped on a banana peel.bornonaug9 said:Both lost the election on unpopular campaign - the faith based school and green shift. The longer he stays on, the louder the grumbling will get from the extreme right wing of the party to form their own "Reform Party". That would be a disaster and it would be best to nip it in the bud now.
It happens all the time. Typically a party loyalist from a "safe" riding resigns to allow the defeated leader to stand in a bye-election.ottawasub said:I still can't believe that Tory didn't resign after last year's election. The fact that this hasn't happened may be very telling.johnhenrygalt said:It happens all the time. Typically a party loyalist from a "safe" riding resigns to allow the defeated leader to stand in a bye-election.
It does happen all the time but the ussual reason is that the leader is new to the party, Tory took advantage of this when he won the leadership , the MPP from Dufferin resigned to bigger and better things and Tory ran in the by -election. This time he lost his riding and there was a massive lack of interest in resigning a safe seat for him. He is not real popular amoung a large number of Tory supporters( party not man)johnhenrygalt said:It happens all the time. Is he worst than Dion?It appears that John Tory and his family will be celebrating New Year's Eve on Jan. 9.
That's the charitable explanation for the admission yesterday by the leader of Ontario's Progressive Conservative Party that he won't be able to meet his self-imposed deadline of Dec. 31 for identifying just how he planned to get a seat in the legislature. Shift the calendar a few days and the problem is solved.
Well, sort of. Mr. Tory's brief statement yesterday that he would talk about his future in January rather than at the end of the month is sadly predictable. He has been unable to persuade any of the 25 members of the Conservative caucus to step aside for him to run in a by-election. And he has resisted the advice from loyalists to recognize the inevitable and step down. All he has left is another vague promise that he will have everything in place in a few days.
I agree. Why should English speaking Canada be expected to have bi-lingual leaders?LancsLad said:There is/should be no need to speak french to be Prime Minister and there is even less need in Ontario as Premier. That whole french thing is just another example of the guilt that we allow them to lay on society in order to extract concessions.
Is Ontario not officially bilingual?lookingforitallthetime said:I agree. Why should English speaking Canada be expected to have bi-lingual leaders?
I doubt anyone would argue with that.lookingforitallthetime said:To the original question, Tory should have resigned a long time ago.

.
The question is should it be.danmand said:Is Ontario not officially bilingual?
I take it that you did not have to study for or write a test on knowledge of the Canadian constitution to get citizenshipdanmand said:Is Ontario not officially bilingual?
Tory has been making monumental political mistakes his whole career. From running the campaign that used the ad making fun of how Chretien spoke, to his disaster of a campaign for mayor to the last Provincial election, he always finds a way to make things worse then they would have been without him. At this point he deserves the stupid title far more then Dion, although he's not a capable leader either.calloway said:Dion is stupid... Tory made a political mistake.
