Players had career years last season. Management had nothing to do with that, Management built team this year thinking they would all perform like last year. Signed Vlad to a ridiculous contract. But, in their defence, they have had nothing to do with all the injuries this year.


This year has fallen apart because of injuries and Vlad and Springer suck. The team was the best in MLB in not chasing balls and making contact last year and this year the worse.

Elston Howard spent 6 years in the Negro League before getting a chance with the Yankees.

Clark Gable organized a boycott of the Oscars, the Academy wouldn't allow nominee Hattie McDaniel to attend. They relented but McDaniel was only allowed to sit at the back of the hall.


Casey Stengel was a full decade older than Clark Gable, he played when Kenesaw Landis bared people of colour from the Majors.

Nope.

Elston Howard only played 20 games in the Negro Leagues, in 1948. He played three seasons in the minor leagues, (1950 and 1953-54), with two years of military service in between. He played for the Toronto Maple Leafs in the International League in 1954; during the 1950's, the Maple Leafs were not affiliated with any Major League team. The Yankees had another AAA level everyday catcher in 1954, (Gus Triandos).

It wasn't colour which kept Howard off the Major League roster, it was Yogi Berra playing catcher almost every day, and being top 4 in MVP votes every year from 1950-56, while winning three times.Playing everyday at AAA was better for Howard than catching for relief pitchers in the bullpen.

I was at the game on Saturday. Sure was nice to see Springer finally do something with the bat. Defense was solid and low and behold Hoffman looked dominant closing out the 9th. Skenes definitely didn't have his good stuff but I was still happy to see him pitch. We just got to keep winning series and at least get ourselves in a wild card position. We are fortunate that the AL has been relatively poor this year so its more than doable.

Is Murakami as defensively sound as Kazuma Okamoto? He's stabilized the Jays infield, they look much slicker than they did last season.

The Story of Paul Bunion, the biggest cunt in baseball. Broadcaster Jeff Pearlman is very accurate, in 1998 he did look like King Kong Bundy.


His expose on John Rocker is also excellent. He also wrote the book Showtime about the Lakers in the 80's which became a hit HBO series.

Getting Capn Kirk back in this lineup could be the turning point in this Jays season. Still could use another power hitter but man have the jays ever missed Kirks bat.
