The Hammer
Antonio Davis is a bum but it does free up considerable cap space. Who cares if they could have made a run this season? If they did make the playoffs they'd get swept in the 1st round by the Pistons anyhow...smart move for once I'd say...

A few years ago, it was AD, JYD, and Michael Bradley(edit. Chris Jefferies, not bradley) to Chicago for Rose, Marshall, and Lonny Baxter (If memory serves me). Now Davis is back - for the remaining few months - JYD works for the raptors community programs, all we need is jefferies to sign as a ball boy and it would be like travelling back in time. (Althogh I still think they need Oakley back).

The pick is Denvers 1st rounder, which at this point seems to be late 1st round in a draft that is expected to not be as strong without the high schoolers.

At first I though this was a bad joke - Davis not liking the city - but since he and everyone knows he won't be staying, Kendra and the kiddies won't have to be subjected to the Canadian education system.

As an obvious rebuilding trade, not too bad but I think we should have been able to get it done without the first rounder; the Knicks are just too desperate to win and have been after Rose all year.

Edit: Make a playoff run?????? I know that as leaf fans, we're always optomistic but get real.

you know what, the sheer entertainment value of having kendra davis in the city is well worth the 14 million we're paying AD.
but it's a good couple of days to be a raptor fan, we trade aaron williams (whom we've never used all season) for two first rounders from new orleans, and we get of all this salary.
The only problem is, he's a great guy. Genuinely good individual, i'm sorry to see him leave under such circumstances.

Mabye the 1st round pick that went to the knicks is the conditional pick that denver gave to toronto. That would make more sense of this trade IMHO. :)
thats the way they were explaining it this afternoon. Dont know the exact details as of yet though.

And as far as comparing it to the Delgado situation Empty Wallet. A big difference is that the Jays will miss Delgado a hell of a lot more than the Raps will miss Rose. The getting rid of money is a good comparison but the talent just isnt there with Rose like it was still with Delgado. Still looks like a good deal to me

HOW do you see this as a bullshit trade? Rose was going to make another 17 mill next year. Davis is done after this year if he even comes here at all. there will be teams that will want Davis and the Raps will be rid of 17 mill next year. I say YIPPIE! Oh or are you a Knicks fan? then i see your displeasure

You got it. This trade was not about players, it was salary cap.Raptors gain a ton of room.If Davis elects to play for the Raptors he's only here for the balance of the year. If he doesn't show,I am sure we will all shed a tear.
Should he play and want to play he can be a damn good rebounder and that could be what they need to get them to the playoffs.Good trade!

My Take on it

Great Trade for many reasons frees up alot of cap room next season. hopefully he will choose to report to toronto and come in for a season and teach Charlie V the advantages of being an undersized centre in the east for next year. Few years back when davis was a little quicker and younger playing centre he did an amazing job Charlie can learn alot if Davis is willing to teach. things looking better for next year goona look at the list of upcoming free agents to see who might be a nice fit

I think its good/bad depending on how you look at it. If your goal is free cap space and hope to get a big free agent, then obviously its a good trade. But still trying for a run at the playoffs, it might not be.
The factor is whether or not A.Davis is even gonna come/play in Toronto. If A.Davis is for sure gonna play for the raptors then ya their chances are still pretty good. But if not, you basically give up a good player and want to give the young guys a shot.
We all know how he felt about being here. W'll just have to wait til tmm I guess to find out. my two cents.

I didnt really like the timing. Announced 90mins before game time. Which is when players are suppose to report. So Rose gets to ACC and gets told he belongs to the other change room now. I think boths fans in Tor and NY are shocked. How quiet was the crowd tonight! Rose looked like he didnt know what was going on sitting on that bench. Most of the fans probably didnt know til they got to ACC. Would've been nice to see him play tonight.

So for the most part, this is being viewed as a positive deal for TO by all Terbite Raptors fans. Would that been the case if Babcock had swung the exact same deal? Just curious ...

heheheh and so the saga of Kendra Davis in TO returns :D this woman has a rep around the league of being nuts and a control freak, ohhh this is gonna be definitely entertaining
Evidently she had assault charges laid against her today for an altercation after a traffic accident. Add road rage to her list of charms.

Antonio has 48 hours to show up in Toronto, which evidently hasn't happened yet.

During that accident she was also driving with a suspended or expired licence...lol shes a reality series waiting to happen

Antonio stayed at the Knicks hotel room in TO during the game while Rose sat on the Knicks bench the whole game in civies. Apparently Davis is meeting with Wayne Embry today to discuss things. Stay tuned this could be good

AD is a has been in my opinion. His impact steadily declined in Chicago and NY. If the Raptors use him he would just be a backup for CV. Hopefully, they trade him away.

As a Knicks fan, I hate this trade. AD did not fit into the Knicks' long term plans, obviously, but Rose is a mutt, and an expensive one at that. Somewhere there is an Isiah Thomas bashing thread, and this is another example that this guy doesn't know what he is doing.

in my opinion its a good trade even if raptors had give up a 1st round draft pick. raptors already have 3 rookies from this year, that need minutes and all the attention to them, so they get the experience, if you keep bringing rookies every year, raptors would end like clippers ( lots of lottery picks and no improvement),
lets give charlie, joey and jose some time to get the experince, also raptors still have couple pick in europe that might be ready to play in couple of years.
i hope they work on getting mike james to stay and sign chris.

- send haffa down to nbadl, get him some playing time

Ya no kidding. Thats what they should have done last year, especially at the beginning. I like Sow a lot better. You can see why he was a top player in the NBDL. Just in a few games since Sow has played, he looks more like a nba player whereas araujo, although has some good games, should have been in NBDL. I still think he is a bust. He might be a good backup player someday. But definitely dont agree that he should have been picked as high as he was , or even a first rounder

cant blame haffa that he was picked at that position, i think haffa should just play and not worry about making mistakes, every time he makes a mistake he tends look at sam, to see how sam is reacting and maybe he is playing soft to avoid making mistakes, he plays agrresiive on the road, and his numbers show him being better when he is away from home fans.

I'm not being down at Haffa at all. Hes good player. Babcock is the one that chose him. And i think the fans need to be reminded of that, because he does get it preety hard at HOME. You can definitely see the differenct between him at home and away.

Thats why i think the nbdl will help him. Thats what it is for, to develop players. At least in nbdl, he can get the minutes and just play, not worry about anything else, whether home or away.
