you said nobody... clearly you are wrong. But the question is, why even make such a comment? And you accuse ME of being childish? How would you characterize someone like yourself who makes such a comment?
LOL One guy commented about him among 100's of views. Few commented about the planes.

How would I characterize myself? Smart enough to get you guys going.... :)

Which Nottyboi and Options, is I suppose why the MiG-31 went out of production in 1994 and the Russian Aerospace Forces have not only chosen to develop the Sukhoi PAK FA scheduled to enter service in two years but continue to produce MiG-29 and Su-27/Su-30 aircraft.

The MIG-31 is being updated. I will admit it has limited export potential as it is the type of plane that has use maybe only in Russia, Canada and maybe Australia. It is a pure inteceptor. It is also a redesigned Mig-25 so it is a very old design. It was the first fighter plane to have ASEA radar, and also the first to be able to share target info with the ground and other MIG-31s. The MIG-25 is also rumored to be the only Iraqi fighter to shoot down a plane in the Iraqi war. The current fleet is being updated and will be replaced with something quite similar. The only reason the MIG-29 is in production is life support for MIG until their next project enters production.

I'll modify my statement: There are only about five people on Terb who give a fuck.
Ok so you admit you were wrong. That is a start to becoming a better person. Congratulations on starting your journey of personal growth. :yo:

Really? The only major development project of which I'm aware is the Sukhoi PAK FA.

Since it is the favorite news source of many on this thread, didn't you see this footage from last years Moscow Air Show?

Are you smart enough to realize that most of the views are due to curiosity, and that if the thread was titled "Ivan Mikoyan, Aircraft Designer, Dies Age 89", it would have got 5 views and not over 300?

It would have gotten well over 300 views.
The man who made the best jet fighter of its time (the MiG 15B) from the Rolls Royce jet engine that Clement Atlee gave Stalin and the aircraft designers who made the Me-262 and who ended up in Russia after 1945!

Keeping it to jets--

On the fighter side: The PAK DA (bomber) seems to be a priority project, and a Mig-41 (Mig-31 successor) and 'Actually New' Tu-160 are apparently having actual work done. Mig is still working on a light 5th gen Mig-29/35 successor in house (though it may never see production). There is also the looming need for a Su-25 successor, though that might be handled via helicopters and strike drones as the Russian MOD didn't seem too interested in an armoured Yak-130 derivative. Are there prototypes? Who knows? What will enter production? Who knows? But there's lots of work being done all over the place by every account...

On the transport side: Russia need to replace much of it's transport fleet and working with Antinov is a non-starter. Across all segment of the dual use transport fleet, and passenger fleet, Russia seems to be doing indigenous development via Tupolev and Ilyushin (and others) while partnering with (mostly) India and China on various 'big' projects. Russia gets cash, economies of scale, and political good will, and India and China get product and technology. Russia has one 'big' shared project with each of India and China right now on the transport side.

All you can really do is watch the Victory Day parade, Russia friendly airshows, and Russia friendly Arms Expos. Everything else is dribs and drabs that could be the Russian government telegraphing to to West, or it could be a design bureau pushing for it's designs, or it could be straight up propaganda. Though Russian aerospace is chugging along again, so prototypes should start being publicly shown over the next years (plural both years and prototypes).

What Russia currently has in production on the jet and fighter side is some combination of: Yak-130, Su-30(with two major production families), Su-34, Su-35, Mig-29M(ish) and / or K, possibly Mig-35, and finally the t-50 with new but not the 'new new' engines. Though the are a bewildering number of variants that come off various production lines (often in the form of customisations and downgrades for export).

If no Mig-41 emerges that role will probably go to the Su-34. It's pretty clear the the Russian MOD wants: Su-30 for 'low', and Su-35 and T-50s for 'high', and Su-34 for strike (that would be really easy to double as slower but high endurance interceptor) really leaving Mig out in the cold. Also there's a really good chance that only one of the 'Son of Tu-160' and the PAK-DA bomber will see the light of day despite being really different things, and that the Su-25 role may indeed go to helicopters and drones.

Personally, I think the Russians should make a Yak-130++ to stay in the low end market, and focus Mig on heavy drones or something as a 5th gen Mig is likely to end up in the same spot as the Mig-29.

PAK FA is a Sukhoi product. There are rumors of a MIG-41 interceptor that will go as fast as mach 4.3. The Russians are doing a lot of work with hypersonic tech. The MIG-31 class of plane is quite essential to Russian air defence. PAK FA is a pretty magnificent looking machine.

If you were smart you would just create a survey instead of blathering on. Why do you care who does or does not give a shit? Really? Are people only supposed to give a shit if lesser people like you also give a shit?

On the transport side they will be buying 10 IL-96s/year

Though you shouldn't let that make you think Russian / Soviet science, engineering, and industry aren't capable of producing plenty of innovation on their own. There was a lot of bunk Soviet era propaganda, followed by 'Russia in the 90s' embellished truth, that gave a lot of people (some of them in power) some dangerously wrong ideas.

My aggression? you are the one who interjected onto a thread in which you have no other interest other then telling people no one cares about what they are discussing. Sure no one cares about this $1.6 trillion industry. Now just go back to your pokeman go since you are not interested in defense tech and geo politics. :p
