Let me guess, you were or are a fan of The Strokes too? Any other once-upon-a-time hip cool indie retro albiet talentless groups I should know about?

Sorry, but rock is dead, and there won't be a second coming.

I know there are some personal likes and dislikes... I thought the first 4 Stripe's albums were good.... after that, I don't think they came close.

Things do go in waves and cycles.

Nah, the problem is: Sorry, but your ears are dead.
Let me guess, you think rock peaked in 1978 with Boston's More Than A Feeling and it's all been downhill since that era.
There's more variety and choice than ever before in history, and the great thing is that you don't need some DJ taking payola to tell you what to listen to anymore.

On this week's episode of Criminal Minds, there's some lines that "the music you listen to at 14 has the most lasting effect" and maintains its emotional power throughout your life. That doesn't mean it was the best and everything after is bad.

If you think rock is dead, it's probably because the Rolling Stones (and so-called classic rock) killed it. Overrated, overplayed, overpriced corporate rock dinosaurs that should have gone extinct long ago, and haven't written a decent song in decades.

Rock certainly peaked in the 70s (before my time), but there was still new interesting material coming out throughout the 80s and 90s. Some short-lived glimmers since then but nothing worth buying, and nothing on par with what has already been done in the rock arena.

Poor guess. They're overhyped. Mediocre at best.

Like I said, seeing as you have your mind made up on current music, you are not in a position to critique it. I don't begrudge that you don't enjoy the current rock scene, as everybody has different tastes, but that does not mean you need to keep pushing your tastes on others. Keep listening to the oldies stations instead of interrupting the discussion of others.

Rock is dead but music isn't. You're living in a cloud of nostalgia trying desperately to cling to the absurd idea that new rock actually rocks like the good old days.

When quality rock was made, instruments mattered. But now, with such low quality rock "music" being made, guitars, drums, and other live instruments in a rock set are just lame.

But there will always be some good music.

For rock, case in point from 2008
