The military leader of Hamas has said he believes he has gained the upper hand over Israel and that the spiralling civilian death toll in Gaza would work in the militant group’s favor, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal, citing leaked messages the newspaper said it had seen.
“We have the Israelis right where we want them,” Yahya Sinwar told other Hamas leaders recently, according to one of the messages, the WSJ reported Monday. In another, Sinwar is said to have described civilian deaths as “necessary sacrifices” while citing past independence-related conflicts in countries like Algeria.

Hamas committed a massive terror attack against mainly civilian targets that not only derailed a continuing improvement in the opportunities for Gazans but started a war, all because Sinwar thinks dead Palestinians look good in pictures.
Israel arrests people engaged or suspected of violent acts. Hamas took hostages because they were in Israel.
The proof? The ICC, ICJ, and UN all demanded Hamas immediately and unconditionally release their hostages. No such demand to Israel.

Those people Israel "arrests" are a) Under military rule and are not subject to Israeli civil law. b) Are terrorized and kidnapped often times in the middle of the night. c) They are held without due process or trial and tortured in custody. d) The kids that are held in such fashion are often time subjected to rape and sexual assault. As such those arrests are unlawful and amount to state kidnapping and hostage taking.
