The mayor has already asked the provincial and federal governments for assistance in dealing with the rise of violent crime over the summer. A crackdown is coming.Yeah its still a very safe city, but cops need to do a giant crackdown on the gangs to make it safer
Toronto had a higher crime rate in the 90's and way more dangerous hardened gangsters than these young guys now. Police use to be afraid to go into Regent Park.I have lived in Toronto since before some of the board members were born. In my opinion, Toronto now is not as safe as it used to be. The trendline is going the wrong way.
To be perfectly honest, this problem will never be solved because most of the culprits (and victims) are members of a "protected group".
So what would happen if all drugs were legalized and sold to the public by a state owned monopoly like the LCBO and the soon to be neophyte OCS. All the CEOs would be likely not be "black thugs", but people like Julian Fantino, Ernie Eves, George Smitherman or Senator Larry Campbell. This would put those "black thugs" out of business eh? Maybe a would be politician will campaign with the electoral promise of the legalization of cocaine or opiods in the near future to get the ball rolling with shades of Justin Trudeau like panache !Nobodies talking about the organized crime guys who flood the streets with drugs and guns. These dangerous "black thugs" are the ones who get product to market, and risk their lives. Our drug laws prop all crime groups up.
Well, it might cut down on gang-related violence, until gangs find a way to make a different crime profitable. So what would happen if all drugs were legalized and sold to the public by a state owned monopoly like the LCBO and the soon to be neophyte OCS. These "UNPROTECTED" groups give "street gangs" what they need, without them they would be living different lifestyles.
Why does another innocent person need to get gunned down before something is done?Lots of gun play, gangbangers whacking each other. If a "Jane Creeba" typed individual gets hit and killed in the crossfire then the shit will hit the fan. Until then it will be more of the same.

Successful media outlets and successful politicians know what sells and what doesn't.
No city or country is 100% safe. However, cities in the PRC, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and Singapore are probably the safest on Earth. 20 years ago, I would also include some Western European and Canadian cities but not so to-day.Is any city really safe anymore?
A loving home isn't (always) the problem. There's a whole bunch of other issues that play into it....
There are not many gang members that grew up in a loving home.
