I have an old android box, Mygica but I can't update the android an I'm left with kit kat 4.4 . I'm still able to stream, but now with black friday I can get a firestick for $24 or a R69 android box for 29...I use the android for Mobdro and the kodi addons. Anyone have experice with a firestick? I don't need it for netflix or regular paid programming I'm looking to jailbreak. Does firestick have better capabilities than a android box.

Can you get live Tv channels...like sports, national geographic?
You can through subscriptions. I don't know about sports because I don't watch them.

For NG, you would need Prime video and then the stack TV channel. Additional 12.99/month.

Comes with global, showcase, slice, NG, history, w, HGtV, adult swim and 4 cartoon channels.

Apple TV and Disney + are available as well as crave, Netflix, Gem, global, CTV, apps.

Most are paid streaming.

You can also side load Kodi so you can get free shit that way.

I have Amazon Prime and can watch movies on my desktop but not on my smart TV. I am assuming a firestick will allow me to do so. If so, what is the list of actions I need to do to get it to work?

Amazon made it so easy.

Buy the Firestick through your (Prime) account.

When it arrives you simp0ly plug it into an empty HDMI port, select that Port on your TV, follow the on screen instructions to connect to your wifi network and that's it. Amazon has already pre-loaded your account info so you can just start choosing shows.

There are lots of goggleable online tutorials if anyone wants to "sideload" KODI onto the Firestick too.

Problem with things like Firestick or Chromecast or Roku is the apps are all locked down
You have to buy them in the USA to have any good stuff

At least with an Android (or Windows) box there are no regional restrictions

Or you side load kodi and the right couple of add ons and stream everything.

I have a low cost add on for football, and another paid subscription for hockey, but I watch all my TV shows/movies for basically nothing. I just choose to pay $50 a year for access to premium content server sources that auto VPN my streaming.

It's true that nothing is truly free, if you are looking for true IP television there's free, good quality, and good content, but you can only have 2 of the 3 at once.

PS the 4k firestick is on Black Friday sale for 35, you can't really do better hardware wise at that price point.

I've been having issues with my add-ons and getting quality streams. I am using Exodus Redux and Gaia mostly, would be interested to know if others have had better luck with other add-ons.

Black Friday is usually a good day to get/re-new your VPN. I was on IPVanish for $2/month the last two years.

There are some shows I like that I don't get steaming. So I use kodi. I prefer paying for content if I can because I create content and I feel it is important but once in a while I use Kodi.

I'm still on v. 17 and use Exodus. I don't have much issue. Some but not much. I think I would be annoying however if I relied on it for all my content.

There is a Sportsnet app on firestick but I don't know the sub. cost.

I hear you and completely understand re: the obligation to pay for content.
It seems each streaming service is going to have a hit or two....and if you want to watch them you will have to pay for them all and that can get quite expensive.....unless you go the Kodi route.
I only have one streaming service that I pay for.

yes...Amazon is going to break Netflix one day...the firestick is usable for the older smart TV that can't be loaded with an Amazon app...but new Smart TVs that can download the Amazon app, firestick is unnecessary.

I'm on Leia 18.5, but there are plenty of add ons that are still fine in krypton (17.x)

If you are still on Exodus that's likely part of the issue, that add on has been dead for a long while.

Gaia, Venom, The Crew are all active and supported. I like Seren as well. Paying for access to premium sources (Real Debrid, Premiumize) makes the kodi experience much easier. I can watch every program from any streaming platform or TV station all through kodi. My only paid services (outside the premium sources) is for sports.

exactly, the older smart tv has preloaded apps but no android store for extra apps. the newer smart tvs have the store where you can search for new apps. I think it's because they don't have extra memory for the older tvs.
